This is how my old xbox was broken, I thought I installed the softmod right but I guess not. Anyway a while back I was told the only way to fix it would be to hot swap it, I figured it's been a while so I just wanted to know if there is any other way to fix my xbox yet. If it matters, I softmodded my xbox with mechassault... And it was up and running until I tried to go back to my MS Dash. I'd like to try softmodding again, but I'm not going to until I have a second xbox working.

Try putting the AID3 disc into the DVD tray and see if it will boot. If it does you can format C and E and reinstall msdash(don't power down until msdash is installed). That should take it back to stock. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Great, I'm getting the torrent link now. The $50 dollar xbox I bought only has a seagate drive which I think is ~10GB where my broken ones hard drive is 40GB, I think. Anyway I'll say so if it worked or not. Also, I just burn what I'm assuming will be an ISO to a data cd?

There will be other files and you will have to extract them with winrar(assuming windows), but yes, burn the ISO to a disc. I would burn to a DVD-R if you can, it has the best compatability _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

At the moment I can only burn to a data disc, will it even fit on there? I guess I should ask a friend to download it and burn it to a dvd.

I will fit on a CD if thats what you mean, but xbox drives have a hard time reading CDs. You can try a CD-RW, those tend to work better. What type of drive do you have? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

You are asking about the xbox drive right? It is... a phillips or samsung... probably samsung. It has the holes it the tray, and can read burned discs.

I have run into a problem. I burned the cd, that went fine. but now I got the broken xbox out. the samsung dvd drive I have is in my working xbox I took it out of the broken one. Now when I hook the broken xbox up to it's original dvd drive, it gives me an error 12 which seems to be the dvd drive. So the "good" drive works in one xbox and not the other. Even the crappy dvd drive works in the broken xbox... but it can't read the burned cd. Also, I managed to shock my self some where in the upper right area of the box, I'm glad it wasn't on.

Can you try burning to a CD-RW instead? Those tend to work better. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

While I'm waiting on some stuff to make that cd-rw, I have one more question... I thought I read that there is a softmod that you can run right off an eight mb memory card, and doesn't touch your hard drive at all. Is this true?

on some other forum, maybe xbox scene? I'll try and look up the source again, also... no luck with the cd-rw. Seems as though the xbox, no matter what wants to go to the update screen first.

Technically thats true. The SID installer, for example, is just UnleashX.
However it would not allow you to run any programs as there is almost no other programs that will fit on the memory card, making it virtually useless, _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
