I finally got the Action Replay piece of hardware yesterday so went ahead and softmodded my xbox using SID v3.1.

It all went off without a hitch, but then I tried patching my MS Dash so I could switch to it if needed (although I didn't really need to).

The one time I hit the option in evox (I think that was the dash I had installed) to load the MS Dash I got a really ugly error message in various languages and the Eject button was flashing orange.

After I tried patching my MS Dash the same thing happened.

I tried restoring my backups and re-softmodding but the same procedure doesn't seem to work now and I'm stuck with an un-modded xbox. Every time I try and mod it again I get that same error screen of death. I can boot up one of the exploit games and get into SID, restore to backups and boot the MS Dash, but cannot get it remodded.

Any idea what's going wrong? I did notice on my attempts at re-modding I get a zip error when trying to install the softmod dash.

Also, when I restore the MS backup and the MOD backup I get identical results, the original MS Dash. Maybe this is because I didn't make a backup after softmodding, but then why is that directory even there? Razz

Sorry if I'm a little long-winded, I'm just a real noob and am lost.

Ok, if your ok with losing all your game saves and such, follow this:

1. Download the MSdash files linked in my signature
2. Make sure that you can FTP from PC to xbox
3. Launch exploit game and get to SID menus
4. Change network settings to allow you to FTP into the xbox
5. Restart(this doesn't restart the xbox, it restarts the dashboard so the new settings take effect)
6. Make sure that you can FTP into the xbox
**IMPORTANT** Do not power off your xbox at any point between now and when your told to or you'll have problems!
7. In the SID menus go to the File Explorer
8. Explore to the C: and hit start
9. Choose Select all
10. Hit start and choose delete and confirm it.
11. FTP the MS dash files that you download into your C: The files should look just like they did before you deleted the old ones.
12. Repeat on the E:(Note: if you don't want to lose all your game saves you can just delete E:\UDATA\21585554
13. You now have a virgin xbox, so reboot, copy your game saves back, and boot to the SID menu from your exploit game.
14. Backup eeprom, backup msdash, and softmod.

Hope that helps.

One more quick question before I bite the bullet Wink

I format E:\ and copy the files (all the files) just like on C:\ ?

They're to be identical?

Also, I backed up my saves, so there's no need to not format anythign... it can all go? (C:\ and E:\)?

Yeah, you can format both. if you backed up your games (good on you for that BTW). I would also backup your eeprom.bin if you can.

Yah it took a few trips with my lil 8meg mem card (and I know I probably could have learned of a great application for doing it through the network) but they're all backed up Wink

And where, exactly, is eeprom.bin? Embarassed

If you backed up your eeprom(and you should have to be able to softmod), it will be(iirc) E:\UDATA\21585554 \00000000\backup. You should be able to back it up via FTP.

Alright, so I tried the ftp-transfer and my ftp program buggered out. It caused all sorts of errors and I ended up with an hd full of 0byte files. I tried to delete them and got an error.

I rebooted to discover my xbox was dead.

So... many many frustrating moments later I had my xbox apart, my drive in my pc, booting into a linux livecd of xboxhdm and redid my hd from scratch.

It worked, and I started softmodding only find I was getting the zip error again and was getting a bunked softmod again!!!

Turns out I had to use the other dashboard (not evox but the other one?)

Anyways, I'm back in the world of modified xboxes Smile

Thanks again, for your help.

If you're running SID 3.1, patch the MSDash BEFORE you install your dashboard. I always do this and it works every time

I have fucked up my xbox, I did some stupid things so I fucked up the dashboard I think, at first I got error message 13, then today I got error message 16. When I did the softmod I used xboxhdm and hotswapped the xbox-disk to the computer. The softmod worked perfect until I fucked it up. So my question is; can I do the same as this guy did? get the hd rebuilded from scratch? I have all the backup-files on the xbox-disk, do I have to use them or can I just put some files on the disk?

Thanks in advance

Problem solved, I downloaded the Ms dash from "greven´s" signature. I deleted all the files on C and E, I hotswapped the disk to the computer, I used xboxhdm to transfer the ms dash and the splinter cell softmod-files, then I installed the softmod and then it worked.
