you have to remove your pc's harddrives or you could end up formating them too, and the ms dash dont come with it, but i can give you a link for it, and basically hotswap is a matter of timing basically. _________________

I'm in the same boat as the OP (see second message) And now I see that the same thing happened to both of us. I KNOW I MADE A BACKUP!!! After trying to uninstall the 4.5 SID mod there was an error, and no backup to be found.
There is some path of install and uninstall on 4.5 that results in no backup.
But back to me I'm no dead on the box. I can boot to SID 3 and have FTP access to the drive. What do I need to replace? I also have AID 3.03 if that will help me. Is AID suppose to be a boot DVD? Mine don't.
Thanks

Ok so I got xboxhdm 1.9, but when I run the win ISO maker-thing, it does not appear to be making an .ISO file. Where should it make an ISO file.
Also I read the xboxhdm 1.9 readme or howto file and it said that I will need a HD password. Will I need to do this to hotswap it?

I got the ISO and hotswap thing works until I get to this step:"Type ‘xboxhd’ when it asks you for a login. Another list of options will show up, choose option 1 again".
I type xboxhd and then it comes up with this:
"This script assumes /dev/hda is the device to be used for creating or rescueing an xbox hardrive no disk found on /dev/had"
When I took out the DVD player I got error 12 instead of 11, and also I have my c drive set up like this :"C:\MSDash\all the files in msdash". Should I make it something like this instead: "C:\all the files in msdash"?

If you have your eeprom, you don't need to hotswap. Use the lock/unlock functionality in xboxhdm, unlock the drive, reboot, recreate the drive, and lock again.
It should look like "C:\all the files in msdash". Otherwise you'll have a folder sitting there, and it won't work.
The error about your /dev/hda is likely caused by the drive not being in your primary IDE port. Make sure the drive is set to Master as well, not cable select or slave. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Ok, thanks.
I have my eeprom on my xbox, not on my computer, but not the msdash. Would that work?

No. You need the eeprom on your computer.
Do you still have access to the SID menu? If you do, FTP into your xbox and download the eeprom. Put it in the EEPROM folder, create the ISO again, and reburn the file. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

No I cannot get to the SID menu and that was one of my problems.
"Make sure the drive is set to Master as well, not cable select or slave."
How can I do that?

I re-tried the hotswap and the firstime I got a drive locked error and the second time I got another /dev/hda error. I am going to be getting a cheap ($5) computer with Windows 98 on it 2 days from now and I will try hotswaping with that one.
I keep getting the error 12 instead of the 11 error also, could that be changing anything?

I personally never use the DVD drive method as it doesn't work for me. What I typically end up doing is listening to the drive and wait for the clicking, as this has proven most sucessful for myself. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Should I leave the DVD drive in to do that?

Doesn't really matter, but it couldn't hurt to disconnect it. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
