No, it's not lame, cynics. Taking the time to play this all-ages platformer reveals a polished, colorful game that's easy and fun.
The setup is like a bad '80's cartoon, as is the voice acting - call me nostalgic, but I kind of dug it. You're Bobby, a 12-year-old lizard fan who gets sucked into an alternate universe and must recover a bunch of lizard eggs.
Roaming around 10 worlds, you've got to standard attacks, the ubiquitous double jump, and boss fights - you can even transform into other creatures and upgrade/learn more attacks. The latter RPG elements give some variety and depth to a standard platformer that just dodges the tedious bullet. It's no Mario 64, and an occasionally irksome camera frustrates, but Scaler is an enjoyable $20.00 game.
