Lets get ready to ruuuuuummmmbbbllleeeeeeeeeee.......
So, here we are, Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix (probably the longest game name in history)! Its basically a non stop rush of style and speed using a free roaming and fully customizable platform. Its very much the same as the NFS titles, you buy a ride, pimp it big style and take your beast onto the streets to prove you're the fastest racer in town. Its made by the same company that brought us GTA, so you know its going to be good before you even start.
Gameplay: Midnight Club 3 has the style and speed of NFS, along with the crash dodging excitement of the Burnout series. You can hit the streets in arcade mode and utilise any of the tracks and vehicles you've unlocked, or go for career mode to build up your reputation and skills. The game also offers great multiplayer action, both locally and via Xbox Live! The customisation and upgrades in this game are a simplistic version of the NFS upgrades, designed for people who don't know their push rods from their cam shafts. The game uses a three level, user friendly upgrade system, which makes upgrading on both outside and inside really easy. The effects of those upgrades are definitely noticeable out on the streets.Arcade mode also offers some unique power ups: AGRO: Turns your car into a piledriver, ploughing through traffic. ROAR: Forces upcoming traffic out of your way and ZONE: Slows the fast pace down to a crawl, for thos tricky corners (much like NFS's crashbreaker.)
Controls: Despite the turbo-charged acceleration, the vehicles are actually easier to control than some games with more realistic physics. Manuvering your vehicle is a simple thing and you'll be power sliding around corners in no time. It responds well and handles like an good arcade racer would. Kids and adults will be able to pick this up, grab a controller and be off racing around in no time. As with NFS, handbrake, Nitrous and power up buttons are easily to get to and utilise during races. Anyone used to NFS, Burnout or FlatOut will instantly recognise the tried and tested controller setup and have no problems.
Sound: The loudmouth personalities from the previous Midnight Club titles have been removed in favour of frenzied street sounds, high performance engine noise and supernatural speed, especially during collisions and power ups. As you'd expect from the developers that gave us some of the best soundtracks ever in the form of the GTA series, this game doesn't disappoint. Rap and fast paced beat tunes line the game and all helps to build on an authentic racing feel. Little noises such as skids, engine grunts and minor crashes all sound excellent and realisticand deepens the whole environment. Its a shame you can't pick which tune to listen to as you're driving though, as I'm sure not everybody will be into that form of music. Still, no complaints and a solid job on the audio only help to better this game.
Overall: Ok, so overall, Rockstar have done a good job with this title. It is a definite improvement over Midnight Club 2 and includes over 60 fully licensed cars. The graphics aren't the best of the best and pale against games life NFS Carbon and Burnout Revenge, but they do stay consistant as the scenery whizzes past you at 100mph. Its a high speed thrill ride where you will be constantly pushing your car to the limit in a blurred frenzy of excitement. If you're looking for a realistic and in depth racing game, buy yourself NFS. If its multiplayer frenzy you're looking for, perhaps Burnout Revenge might be more your style. But if its fast paced, crazy arcade style racing in a no-holds-barred environment, then this is definitely for you. Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix stands tall among the big boys and proves that Rocstar have more to them than just GTA.
