I have already searched the whole internet, but without installing Linux, I can not turn my XBOX into a fileserver.
Which means, I will always have to download stuff to my desktop first, and then ftp it to the xbox.
It would be so nice if the xbox could be the file-server inside my network.
Are there any plans one addind this service to XBMC? OR Maybe Evoltuion or some other dashboard?

Neat idea, but the xbox is so slow for file transfer's why would you bother? _________________ XBox v1.1 w/XBIT

Not necessarily. if someone would be willing to make .py script for xbmc, you could have a site host files and download straight from it. It would be kinda neat. Like maybe for VIP's only. Just load up the script and it downloads anything you want and gives you an option on where to download. Maybe some coders could look into this. _________________ Moddingbandit

Why do you have to FTP it to your XBOX? Just stream it from your PC. Instead of your XBOX being the file server, just let your desktop act as the file server. I have one PC with 400 GB of space that holds all of my movies, TV shows, pics, music, etc and I stream everything from that to my XBOX. Works great! _________________ My Setup:

because my XBOX is in de livingroom at first floor and my desktop is at the 3rd floor. I dont wanna walk up two floors, just to turn on my desktop.
And dont ask why, but I just want my XBOX to be the center of the network, and not my desktop. If a samba-server would be possible, then we would have a full multimediacenter-gameconsole....yeahhhh
