I dont think it requires any soldier, as you can see it gets power from the spiltter style cable and no doubt you connect the SATA and IDE connectors to the pcb. SPPV or one of our other active moderators should be able to help with more info to confirm all of this though. _________________ HQ Network:

I couldn't really look at it clearly enough but I got an idea I wasn;t sure if it was like a PCIe though. So you'd just plug it in and put it some place in the xbox where it wont get away. This Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA for 80 is starting to look really friendly, But I always end up ordering the wrong size HDD if I get a laptop sized one should it still work? Hopefully because that would give me more room to mess around in.

SATA can be a big can of worms. First off the new version of XBOXHDM doesnt support SATA like it says in the release notes, Ive tried a 160GB Fujijitsu, 250GB Toshiba and 500GB Seagate and it never picked any of them up. Second make sure to have a copy of Partition Wizard Pro on hand since frozen security is comon when locking and the only remedy Ive ever found is deleting the partitions and reformating in EXT2 then trying to use it for a build. Next issue is space a laptop HDD works best but a 2.5 will work only youre gonna have to cut out the back of the HDD tray to fit the adapter.
Stay far away from "Green" drives, just check the reviews they are CRAP compared to a regular Seagate Baricuda or WD Blue or Black. They tried to sell me a WD Green 1TB for my new PC and Id rather put out a smoke on my nuts
You will NEVER see the speed of SATA either because you will always be limited by the IDE memory controller/interface.
USB is a waste, you get copy failure on any partition over 4GB, Ive tried everyway I can think of with USB and its a non starter
This is what you want for an adapter since it allows you to take the power from a molex where as most require a floppy power plug which means a molex to floppy adapter
I use this adapter to hook drives Im building for 360 up to my old PC I use for all my XBOX builds

Seagate or WD Blue. Price is gonna be a big thing with laptop HDD. The cheapest 1tb I could find is 110 bucks so I linked to some 640GB and 750GB as well and some full size 1TB and 1.5TB HDD. The full size WD 1TB is an excellent drive its the exact one I bought for my new PC, and I have the 640GB laptop Seagate in a case and its quite nice as well.

Not to throw off the topic but would that Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BPVT 500GB Work with the Xbox 360 XBOXHDM?

You need to use the adapter when doing the build then XBOXHDM will pick up the HDD as an IDE. You plug your PC/XBOX IDE cable into one side and the HDD power/molex into the adapter and the SATA on the other side. Its just like my laptop build video just you use a SATA to IDE adapter instead of a 40 to 44 pin adapter
For 360 you are limited to 250GB if you want to fly under the radar. If youre smart about it you can get away with a generic drive. I use a 160GB Samsung exact same model as what was released by M$ for the 160HDD so it just looks like I hooked an old 360 drive up to my 360s when I actualy yanked it out of a dead laptop.

All right so you can use the 1.5" HDD I was thinking This And That If you ever get the chance could you do a tut on how to hook it up? I can see where the SATA would go but I'm a little confused on where the IDE cable would go/Why theres two IDE powers on it.

In my pic thats just one chip just front side side shot and backside shot
STAY AWAY FROm GREEN. They suck hard you can get WD Blue for the same price almost everywhere. Blue is built to be on almost all the time, so it can take more of a pounding. Greens crap out when put to the same kind of presure. Not as sturdy of a design, quality suffers to make it "environmentaly friendly"

That makes sense so I decided to go ahead and buy the HDD when I get paid but the only cheap one I can find is a 2TB Caviar Green.

Make sure you keep the receipt. Ive seen so many reviews and threads about them dieing and being RMA. Check local PC stores and ask if they have OEM. The store here I get most of my stuff at has both OEM and retail. Its usualy only a fraction of the price just it doesnt have a box, places buy em in bulk for building in house towers. Dont be wowed by 7200RPM or 3.0 or high data transfer specs because you will never see them, SATA has transfer rates around 480mbps but IDE has a max of 66 so thats the max you will see, also remember the higher the storage the more likelyhood for data corruption and failure. Check how many platters it has more platters equals higher failure and the cheaper made have 3 where as the good ones, usualy run around 300 for a 2tb have 1 platter
