K, any solder splatter then? Was the bios chip continuity fine? And damage otherwise? Do you have the DVD connected? Any video output mods(VGA, specifically)? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Actually there was a solder splash on the bios chip that i had to clean up and I'm getting continuity fine... There isn't any damage otherwise that I know of. Everything is connected and there are no video output mods. Just a v1.6 mb w/ soldered xecuter 3 modchip 120gig maxtor HD and X3 Control panel w/ LCD.

It's possible that with the solder splash that it corrupted the bios information.
Is the HDD locked? Not likely the problem, but it can't hurt to check.
If you can't see any other damage and it boots fine with the chip on I can't see it being anything but the bios chip. Any chance you have the equipment to desolder, flash, and resolder the chip? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

The HDD is locked... Your probably right about the bios being corrupted...
Can you tell me the process of reflashing the chip? or just point me in the right direction...

Well all you gotta do for your chip is, first GET RID of the solder splash. Make sure ur chip is clean and u cant see any points that connect with the solder splash. Switch the bank in your chip and see if it works... _________________

I already got rid of the solder splash and the modchip works.... everything boots fine with the modchip. the problem is starting the xbox without the modchip... with it disabled.

So when u press eject, it still boots from the chip? If you look in your xbox, there should be a wire soldered to the eject button, remove this wire and boot with the eject button. I think your modchip has lost its capability to disable with the power button. So just remove any wire coming from the chip in the eject button and use the eject button to boot. See if that works out. _________________

Are you talking about an Xecuter 3 CE Modchip??? Because I'm pretty sure that it goes short press of the power button boots with modchip, long press of of the power button boots without the modchip and if you press the power and the eject button together it boots into backup mode.

yes i am quite sure the chip has gotten somewhat defective. I really dont know what you are trying to say? Are u saying the chip is now working or not? If you can boot it with the chip disabled then hasn't your problem solved? _________________

He cannot boot the xbox when the mod chip is disable. The modchip will disable it self like it should, but when that happens the xbox frags.
If you don't already know for to right to the chip your going to have a really, really hard time with it
As for instruction on how, sorry, I don't have them or know of where. It will really be more trouble than its worth, and may do nothing but cause further issues. You may need to resign your self to having to use the modchip.
