Oh, sorry if Im asking dumb questions, new to all of this. Trying to understand it. Just taking time. but here goes nothing. In my other post. I had such a hard time trying to fix the error 21. I finally was able to read the eeprom. Made a bin file of it. Ran it in another program and it told me my specks of the xbox and hd. At the bottom of that it said that my hd was unlocked, but frozen. my guess is, is that I will need to install a new hd. Or can I unfreeze this one (like reformat it to fat32). I can hear the hd running. So, is to really frozen.

My next question is if I do have to install a new hd, how big of one should I put in there. Would like to run c--nop 5 after it is said and done. The bad thing is Im assuming this was s--tm--d at one time, but not sure. How can I find out if it has been m---d. Would like instructions on if it hasnt been and instructions on if it has been. Or links on how to fix it from them 2 scenarios. That is if I need to replace the hd from a m---d xbox or from a non-m---d xbox.

Thanks in advance

Hey thanks for posting,

Do you have an older computer with IDE ports? I might suggest using an older program like autobuilder. SPPV made it. Once we get some basic questions out of the way, we can talk about that method.

Is this console your own? Or did you buy it from elsewhere? Before it started getting error 21s, did it boot up to the M$ green dashboard or UnleashX, Evolution X or XBMC?

If you want to store xbox game backups and emulators on your console you'll probably want at least a 100GB hard drive. Mine is a 320GB drive.

P.S. Why don't you simply write 'softmod' instead of 's--tm-d'? We don't mind if you want to talk about modding here. Heck, that's what we here for!

Sorry about that, I know some forums dont like when you use them words, so to be safe is all.

As for the xbox, I bought it at a garage sell. When I plugged it in and turned it on. It started to goto the xbox dashboard. Then goes to the error screen. It has been opened up for the stickers are broke loose. So I am assuming that it was modded at one time or another. Or if they opened it to get to the hd to see if there was a loose connection

I did read that if I ran xboxhdm I could just turn the xbox back to factory. Or did I read that wrong. My only thing is not sure what files are suppose to be in that. Followed the steps and it and burn a disk. but the disk wont boot to the xboxhdm. it keeps erroring out. Saying "disk boot failure". So, Im guessing I didn't setup the files right in the folder. Or it might be something else. Just not sure.

I was using an HP at first, which had a Pentium in it. Read where that really wasn't the computer to use. So, I found a compaq desktop that had a amd processor. Now I can tell the computer what to boot at. which is so much better than the hp...lol

Hope that answered most of the question if not all of them

Thanks in advance

Yeah another user named Habbi had a problem with a cheap $5 xbox he bought at a garage sale.

Yeah that's true about some sites not liking to discuss such topic. Yes softmodding is technically illegal because of the DMCAA (if you live in America). If they didn't want you talking about it there, they probably don't have anyone in their forums that know how to do it.

Honestly one can easily just use the same argument that NRA spokesmen in America make.

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people"

Applying the same logic to modding, yes having full control of a video game console gives you the power to play pirated games. but people also mod consoles for legitimate purposes like for putting linux on a console. It's your choice what to do with your hardware. Just be aware of the consequences.

However, I digress.

That's good you have an AMD processor. SPPV likes those and hates those old HP computers that don't let you select where to boot from. Sounds like you have the appropriate hardware.

Yes if the stickers have been moved, revealing the screws, your console may have been modded.

I don't know much about modchips. I googled some pics from google on original xbox mod chips. I would suggest opening the console.

If you have a red colored plastic piece in there underneath the DVD drive you know that is a mod chip.

Best bet is to send us a pic of your mobo with the dvd and hard drive caddies removed (carefully!) so we can take a clean look at your mobo.

That is what I would suggest, unless someone has an easier way of nailing it down.

You are rocking a VERY clean and un modded (chip anyways) XBOX. FROZEN is bullshit BIOS error. Essentialy your PC BIOS has taken control of the HDD not allowing access to the security layer. This can be circumvented by booting the PC and hitting what ever key takes you to BIOS Setup (F5, DEL, ESC it varies by BIOS) and setting DETECTION ON PRIMARY CHANNEL to DISABLED or MANUAL. Then HDM takes control of the HDD not the BIOS.

Use Babylon, hook the HDD up and rebuild it.

And yes Mod talk is OK here. Hell 90% of the apps here (and they are written for modding or modded XBOX) were done by the admins and moderators.

Thanks for the reply. Is their a specific Babylon I need to use. Will this unfreeze my hard drive and unlock it too. I made a EEPROM bin. Can I pit it into Babylon before I put to disk or thumb drive.

I am going to ask a dumb question. Was messing with xboxhdm. But can't seem to get the disk to work. What's so weir is I made an old one awhile ago I guess. Well exstracted those same files. And put my EEPROM bin file in the EEPROM folder. Then reburned. And for the life of me I can't get the disk to work. And the only thing different is I put the EEPROM file in. So, I was going to try to use thumb drive with Babylon or can I.

Thanks

When you make xboxhdm cds or dvds they are tied to a specific EEPROM file (hence a specific xbox, unless you physically replaced one, but that's a special case).

Each xbox has its own unique EEPROM. If that disk was made with a different EEPROM, then it can't be used with the hard drive you've been asking about.

Babylon can be downloaded here

Thanks for the response back. The xbox.hdm was 1.9 versiion I downloaded from another site awhile ago. and downloaded MS Dash 5960 from isozone. I thought I put everything I needed in the correct place per isozone. the only thing I was not sure on was the c drive for they deleted the pic of what the folder was suppose to look like. I did it one without the eeprom in the folder and one with the eeprom in the folder. This is the eeprim bin file that went with my xbox of course. burned to a cd and tried both and it was a not go on either one of the cd's i made. I did notice when looking at the babylon files it told me to burn it at I think 24x coutd that have been the problem with the xboxhdm cd. for I burned them at 48x which is my defualt.

As for the babylon files. Which one should i use for this application or does it really matter.

Thanks in advance

Follow the included Babylon1 Tut. It will create an XBOXHDM installer disc with all the files you need for the HDD to come out fully softmodded. And yes if you have the eeprom it can lock/unlock the HDD no problem. Just be sure to do what I said in the PC BIOS first or you will keep getting told its frozen.

Yes you need all 4 parts. Its a multi part archive. Have all 4 parts together (same folder/directory) then click on part 1 and hit extract (make sure you have 7-zip installed, windows doesnt have the cahonies to extract archive files)

I have one more question. After I download SIDS 5 Babylon and put on a disk. Does it matter what write speed I use when burning this to a disk. My default is 48x and seen where the BABYLON X2 BOOT CD IMAGE is burned at 24x. Just wanting to make sure before I burn to a disk.

and on that same not. should I burn all iso and files at whatever speed you give me too.

Thanks in advance

Because you are going to do an XBOXHDM install/repair you need to follow the Babylon1 tut. Dont burn the ISO in the download, thats the XBOX installer. You need to use the CXBOX Tools I included to extract that ISO and put the resulting folder on the root of your C drive (PC) then click the Babylon1.exe thats included. That will open the Babylon PC Compiler which will guide you through building your XBOXHDM recovery disc. once you have that ISO you burn it at 8x for DVD or 24x for CD. This is all covered step by step in detail in the Babylon1 tut.
