I tried to softmod an xbox i bought from a friend. I used SID 5 in combination with splintercell. All went ok, but what i didn't know was that my friend did already softmodded it with a hotswap method. From the menu i choose to update the dashboard to 5960.
When it rebooted i can still get the menu to softmod it, but it won't work because there are modded files on the C: drive. I can't do a ms backup and there isn't one available on E. I can still ftp it that's no problem.
Can i just copy over a msbackup on C: i download somewhere and will it work ???

Think i maybe have another solution, i can get in an autoinstaller. So when i format the c-drive and then install a msdash 5960 via the installer, i have a clean harddrive ??
So when i boot it then up, i have a clean xbox without softmod again ??
I can start over then, and softmod it again ??
If i'm not right, tell me.

Try ftping the msdash over, then restore it. you should be able to then resoftmod it. _________________

You mean i put a dashboard(5960) back to e:/backup/ms and then resoftmod it ?? I have a backup of another xbox i modded, backup is made before the softmod. So i guess this is a clean dashboard then.
So i can use this one ??

if you can i would just hook the hard drive to your computer and use xbox hdm to format the drive. after of course you ge thte eeprom and everything else.

Think i'm gonna take first a backup of the c:/drive,.... because i can still ftp it. After that i'm gonna place a Ms dash in the backup folder and try to softmod it again that way.
Normally it should work but what i don't know is that a backup of the msdash of a 1.4 for example is the same as for a 1.6 box ??

It might be a slightly older version, but the MS Dash is available for download, so you can get the latest version from there.
