Hi,
Have a 1.4 ver box and just got the xchip.. I am having trouble finding the D0. I think i have found it but there seems to no hole (or no electrical contact to be more precise). I have taken a pic of the box and circled what i think is the D0. In the manual the D0 is show as a silver hole which is not the case in my box.

when i install the chip and just rest the wire on circled D0 the red light comes on but the MSdash just comes up instead of cromwell.

any help would be appreciated.

thanx

Welcome To xbox-hq, Garfield!

I don't know a lot about modding, but I do know that the D0 is within that black outlined box in the picture. It looks just like mine.

Sorry I can't help anymore, but never fear! Lots of people far smarter than I will quickly respond to your problem! I'll bet within a few hours!

Oh, I forgot to mention that it is my belief that only early Xbox versions actually have a hole at D0... neither of my Xbox had holes!

The Xecuter X2.3lite works fine. I bet most people's motherboard doesn't have a D0 hole. I'm sure it will work. I only installed one of my chips, but I know the chip would act like it was connected properly (the right LEDs lit up), but the chip still didn't work. I had to jiggle it around a bit to get it to boot up.

I just did a 1.4 and it had a hole...either that or I pushed that f#@king little wire so hard I made one...HA...

All kidding aside, you do have the right area though.

Are you sure it's a 1.4?

It could be a 1.5. I don't know if it matters with the xchip, but with the Xenium Ice you need two extra wires on the 1.5.

To test if it's a 1.4 or 1.5 you just need to check for continuity between the number two LPC hole and any ground. If you have continuity, yes you indeed have a 1.4 if not you have a 1.5

You sound like you really got a good grip of what you are doing. Its just something small right now bud. Check your solder points make sure all is okay with them.

Keep us posted. Man, I have seen so many xchip and aladdin posts lately!!

later all

RM, You musta pushed REALLY hard! I sure didn't have holes!

I thought the later versions didn't have holes, but RealMcCloy's looked in a lot more than me!

thanx for your replies..

as for the continuity the LPC is grounded so it's a 1.4

well then the only option i have left is to push it really hard Smile

will let you know if it works or not.

thanx again

ok i finally made it work using the hard way. WOOHOOOOOOO

I don't recommend other people doing this .. so do it at your own risk..

i had to literally drill a hole in D0. becasue like i said the D0 is a green coating over the wires so just resting the wire on it does not give any electrical contact. so i had to take a small pin and hammer(yup hammer) it gently 5 - 10 times until i could some silver wire down below. and then i just rest the wire on it and voila cromwell boots up.

thanx for you help everyone.
i appreciate it.

Yikes! Zoinks! Egad!

Couldn't you just strip the coating off with a fibreglass brush? That's what I did... worked like a charm.

I can't really say that an Xbox repair kit should include a HAMMER! Wink
