Post subject: Confused with backups in SID 4.0

Hi all,

I softmodded my XBOX with SID 4.0 using Splinter Cell, however I am a bit confused with the order of backups to make. I first did the EEPROM backup, then MS backup and after installing the mod and before robooting I did a Mod Backup, in order to have a backup of the softmodded xbox. However reading an old tutorial, I read that one has to backup the eeprom with the mod backup option, is now different in SID 4.0, and did I do the right backups and in the right order?

Regards,
MrBogus.

the mod backup was usually only nessecary if youw anted to switch back and forth from mod to unmodded box to get on live. Very tedious. If you feel you need a mod backup, wait until the softmod is completely done then re-run your softmod exploit, THEN do the mod backup, after the patching, after the virtual eeprom is done. But like I said, it's really not nessecary.

One more question, if I may. When doing the eeprom backup a message said that the backup was going into e:\udata\21585554\{zeros}\backup and after the mod in e:\backup\eeprom, the problem is I dont have that directory, e:\baclup\eeprom, just \backup\MS directory. If I do a backup of my eeprom from evolutionX then a directory with the eeprom is created, but the contents of the eeprom.bin doesnt match that one inside the udata\215855554 directory, which one is the right eeprom.bin that I have to keep preciously?
Sorry about the long question, but I want to be extra sure that I am prepared for any difficult situation.

The eeprom at e:\udata\21585554\{zeros}\backup is your real backup of your real eeprom. All others are shadow eeproms and will show zeros for serial # and so on. I learned that the hard way this weekend. It's not a bad thing, it's a way of protecting softmods from corruption. You won't need this info unless you upgrade your hdd after your softmod using SID 4.

Well I am planning to upgrade my hardisk soon, so I really need to know which of the both eeprom.bin files should I transfer to xbhdm. I was concerned also because the message in sid4 said that I would find a backup\eeprom directory in E: after modding but that's not the case.

The eeprom at e:\udata\21585554\{zeros}\backup is your real backup of your real eeprom. All others are fake and won't allow the mod to take place properly.

Ok, I understand. Thank you for the confirmation, and I hope others read this thread in order to have a backup of the real eeprom, especially that the mod doesn't create the e:\backup\eeprom with the contents of the e:\udata\21585554\{zeros}\backup after the mod.
I appreciate your help, thanks a lot guys.

Sorry to be bringin up ol' shit. But it's not "just an eeprom backup". That .bin file can be the difference between you fraggin your xbox, getting on live, or not. That eeprom is precious, especially since some of us don't have godlike soldering skills to replace the eeprom (hense why we went with softmods in the first place)
