I'm planning on doing a softmod on my xbox, but have a couple of questions that I've seen various answers for.

Currently, I have a retail xbox, that has been connected to xbox live.

Will softmods work on an xbox that has been connected to xbox live?

Also, given that I've already connected to xbox live, if I do a softmod, will I also be able to upgrade my harddrive?

I understand the limitations with using xbox live after the mod... That doesnt concern me, as I hardly ever use xbox live now.

Thanks,
Tim

1) yes you can softmod an xbox that has been connected to xbl.

2) yes you can upgrade your hdd... keep in mind that youll need to upgrade your hdd first then install your softmod.

3) you cant play on xbl with a softmod installed... and if you change your hdd youll need a new eeprom if you want to play on xbl ever again.

you can always use xbc or xlink kai. they are free and no mod restrictions Wink

Thanks for the reply...

So the correct procedure I should follow is this:

- first upgrade the harddrive on the unmodded xbox

- second, apply the softmod after the upgraded harddrive is in place.

Is there any good tutorial for upgrading a harddrive on an unmodded xbox that you can point me to?

Thanks,
Tim

Thank you for the reply!

One more question...
Will the xbox work with any brand hardrive? is one brand recommended for xbox over others?

Also, is there a maximum size limit on how big of a drive you can put in the xbox?

Thanks,
Tim

Also, read this article that I posted on identifying lockable HDD's. Very useful stuff if you have large cap. HDDs lying around the house.

As for drive size, there's no maximum on drive capacity, but on drives larger than stock, you'll need to enable the F drive in your softmod dash, and format it with the AID2 disc. Anything over 137GB will need the G drive enabled from the softmod dash, and formatted with the AID2 disc.

Just to make things clear. Dont fully install the softmod on the original harddrive. Once you run the gamesave exploit, just simply backup everything through the ftp. Then you can install it on the new harddrive and fully do the softmod
