Thanks to all at this site for showing me how to softmod my xbox. All it took was some time reading and it went flawlessly.

I had two questions that i cant figure out.

1. I read somewhere something about if you unplug your softmodded xbox for 12 hours it will reset the clock and mess up your softmod. Is this true, is so, what happens and how can i prevent/fix it.

2. In many of the tutorials it says that after you install your softmod, to go use AID to format c: and install ms Dash 5960, then run the patch program, then re-softmod the xbox again. I did not do any of this and my xbox seems to work great. What is the reason for doing all of this? Should i still do this?

Background about my softmod:
XBox v 1.6 kernal 5884 (got it and Splinter Cell for $80 at Pawn Shop)
Used Softmod Installer Deluxe ( i think v 3) and the Splinter Cell exploit
installed evox to c:
Used Auto Installer Deluxe v 2.11 final to install xbmc, emu's, and a few other programs to e:
installed xSelect
I also setup XBMC as the default dash for xSelect

As far as i can tell everything is working great. I can boot my BAED disk just fine, and if i boot with nothing in the drive XBMC comes up.

Next Step: Bigger HD

If the clock gets reset you can cold boot from SplinterCell and restore the softmod or retail dash.
A softmod will function with or without the m$dash. The porpose of having the m$dash is to manage game saves and to be able to set the system clock. Now, you can also do this with XBMC. Evox doesn't have that option, but is easier to customize it's menu.
Two things you should do if you haven't already done is 1. make a back up of your retail dash and softmod. 2. make a back up of your eeprom. FTP the files to your pc. That way if your box gets messed up you have the important files.

I'm not too sure on how accurate the clock issue is.

My XBOX has one of the new plugs with the breaker in it (got it through the recall; I'd recommend it to anyone that doesn't have one yet and the XBOX is older than 2003 or 2002). Well, that breaker reset one afternoon during a thunderstorm, and i didn't know about it until about midnight or later when I tried to power my XBOX and it wouldn't power. I immediately checked the plug and saw that the breaker had been tripped, so I reset it. I was about to freak out because I don't have some of the more important files backed up (I.E. some games that I borrowed from friends) and I thought they were lost, which would lead me to weeks of arranging to borrow the games again from friends.

Lucky for me though, the XBOX booted to the dashboard (UnleashX), but the clock was wrong, both time and date were way off. Since I don't currently have an Internet connection at the location where I keep the XBOX, I had to set the clock through the dashboard settings menu, but the point is that it booted just fine even though the clock was reset. Perhaps I (or someone) should back up all the vital stuff and leave their softmodded powerless for a day just to find out, though I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have backups and a ready-made XBOXHDM disc.

Thanks for the replies, answered my question about the clock.

Right now when i boot with the disk drive open it boots to the Softmod Installer Menu(where you can backup drives/restore, and install evox). If i do the process from above and put the m$ dash back on, is this were it will show up.

I already backup up all my stuff, i just need ftp it to my pc.

Did you say i can load/manage gamesaves from XBMC, or was that just the clock.
