well, many ppl have problems with ftp and this and that, and eeprom, and lost my backup. well here's some smal tips to a successfull recovery method.
you'll need the following.
1.- all stuff needed to softmod (memory card, action replay, the game..etc)
2.- download "xboxhd_v1.9" and read stuff about it, and find a tutorial on it!
3.- well, if you install a softmod, the first thing to do is to back up your eeprom.
4.- your so n00b you can't ftp yet, well after you've installed a dashboard like unleash x or evox, you must have both, 1 as dash and 1 as an application.
5.- well, after in evox you make eeprom backups, in unleashx use file manager and copy your backup folder made by evox, to your memory card.
let's say your memory card used 007 for the softmod, well, in file explorer go find your eeprom, and locate it, and the other branch, locate your folder "000000000000" in the 007 exploit gamesave, and delete everything found in there, and copy your eeprom backup in the "000000000" folder, once done, take that memory card and put it in your pc using action replay, save your new save to your desktop and you'll have your eeprom backed up in the zip file. then you'll use "xboxhd" and unzip it, put your eerpom data in there, download AID 2.11, and find the file called "ms-c.rar" this will have retail Microsoft Dashboard 5960, this will go to your C folder, and once you got that, just doulbe click on the batch file that says "make iso win" and it will make an iso with your eeprom backed up and 5960 dash.
now this means that your now able to lock or unlock current hard drive, also you can make large hard drive from scratch to use with softmod.
Note that making this disc, you'll loose all your gamesaves when you use it, but you'll have your hard drive like new.
But once you get to ftp, you can now ftp your C drive and E drive and make that iso again, just make sure you can fit it into a cd-r
once you got that iso done, burn it with nero, or alcohol, or what ever that burns "ISO", and use the "Disc-at-Once" feature in nero, and save that disc in a safe place, find tutorials in how to use it. (xbox-scene has a good one by Kingroach).
and go on with your life and xbox, just remember that that disc is your recovery and must be kept safe and scratch free.
When i get time, i'll make a more detailed tutorial in PDF format, and put it for download in the VIP area.
