Shouldn't the xbox be able to play dvds after it's softmodded?

yes, but you can't boot with the disk in the drive. i recommend loading up the dongle free dvd player but i usually use Avalaunch's built in one

download "dvdx-2" made by team executer, run it as applications, and it's a region free dvd player.
