Your Xbox cannot update your computers IP address.
Maybe you are wording your question wrong..not sure what exactly you are trying to do.
As far as accessing files on your PC from XBMC, I am sure someone can assist you with setting up your share folders and stuff. Personally, I never did it so I'd have to play around a little. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

If you're using a router. Go to the router setup page and look for clients. That should show you everything that is hooked up to your router and give you the ip address. _________________

the problem was when i was connecting my xbox to the network i originally had it setup to be static. but that wasnt working. so finally i decided to put in the ip address of my computer. and finally it worked and i was able to ftp into my xbox. but since dhcp always causes the ip address to change. i need my xbox to read it. is there a way to make the xbox do that.? or do i have to look up my ip address everytime i want to use flash fxp to access my xbox?
thanks

You should be able to set the dashboard on the xbox to use dhcp as well. What dash are you using? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Rats... I will have to get home tonight and look at Evox. I thought it had one but I might be thinking of Avalaunch. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

At your evox menu (Evox 3935) scroll down to system configuration, then system settings.
It says, use static IP. If you select NO, wouldn't that mean you are using DHCP? The problem is, if you are using a dhcp setting then your Xbox IP address will possibly change each time you load it. You would then have to look at your evox screen if you skin displays the ip and pop that ip address into your flashfxp.
Your flashfxp has no way of reading your xbox ip address.
Thats why I use a static IP address. I assign the IP address to my evox settings, and then configure a new site in flashfxp. My IP is always the same so I dont have to make any changes in regard to flashfxp.

yeah, but I am thinking same goes for using a crossover cable.
There's just no way that your flashfxp would be able to autoconfigure itself to read a new IP address, which is why you should be using Static in my opinion.
Personally, I have never tried connection via crossover cable and not having the benefit of a router so I'm not 100% sure what your limitations should be. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

i say, leave static, but to figure out easiest is this way i say.
in your computer, go to start>run...
type "CMD" no quotes.
and in the Dos window type "ipconfig" this will give you info you need.
let's say you got something like::
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
this is cause my computer is on the first port of the router.
now in your xbox input this data, but for your ip address go by router port.
also make sure you check other computers IP b4 you input, or you will only cause conflict among network.s
example
Input: Ethernet port for ISP
Port 1: Computer *192.168.1.100*
Port 2: Xbox *192.168.1.101*
Port 3: Computer *192.168.1.102*
Port 4: Empty
hopes this helps and makes things alot easier.
