What size leds does everyone use for the controller port mods and what resistor size is needed. I modded my ports with 3mm leds and 100 ohm
resistors and they seem a bit dim. Should I have used 5 mm instead and what resistor size. I'm just starting into the electrical part of modding and
am trying to learn what to use where and how much. _________________ XBox v1.0

thats what i use... 3mm LEDs and a 100 ohm resistor(s). i always make sure the mcd rationg on the LEDs i use are atleast 4000mcd but i really like to use 6000mcd-12000mcd.

Yup, same here. 3mm Leds and a 100 Ohm resistor, but I use a 1/4 watt 100 Ohm not a full watt anymore. Also, I always try to use 5000mcd or brighter.
Do take in mind that the UV LEDs are not super bright. But, if you get blue, red, green at 5000 or higher, you should have great results.
Also, when you glue your LEDs in the ports do you shove them into the little holes or just glue them to the bottom of the port area? I push them into the little openings so the glow right out the front.

Thanks for the info fellas.
ModGod, I don't glue the leds, I solder them directly to the controller contacts
inside. I do push the lights in as far as I can get them before I do any
soldering. I guess that I didn't get the 5000mcd or higher ones. I'll get some and see what the results will be. I'll try the 1/4 watt .
Thanks again. _________________ XBox v1.0

Yeah, I talked to someone else who says he pushes them in there too. Before I started modding I had a set where someone did that and they fell out so that's why I glue. Plus, I actually used to use 4 3mm LEDs not just 2.
I used to glue one on top of the wires, and then one on the bottom which involved the use of a dremel to notch out an area. They were just insane bright so I knocked it down to three, then to two and still very much liked it.
When I did four and three LEDs I used to have to solder small wires to make all my connections. It took me an hour and a half just to do a complete set. Basically, I pop a little glue in the area that I am going to put the LED and just dip the LED in the glue a little and then push it into the opening where you also push the LED into. Then I solder the resistor to the postiive contact and bend the positive LED legs right to the resistor. Then, just bend the negative LED legs to the negative contact. We are pretty much doing the same thing except for the glue and sized resistor. Let me know how the 1/4 turns out.

I got the 5000mcd leds finally and the 100ohm 1/4 watt resistors and they are
perfect. A lot brighter than the others I had. Thanks _________________ XBox v1.0

What's the difference between 1/4 Watt or 1/2 Watt resistors (100 ohm). Everywhere, it seems that people buy the 1/4 Watt, but why?
A 1/4 of watt ... sorry, good ? and also do you use the 100 ohm res. no matter how many leds you use in a row, cause the res. calc I used is saying for 10 leds,500mcd, 5v, 3.3 forward, 20ma to use a 10 ohm I am confused, ok more like lost _________________ XBOX ver.1

I haven't installed the LED yet because I still have to buy the resistor. At radioshack, they have 100 ohm resistors, but they are either 1/2 watt or 1/4 watt. That confuses me.
well the peeps above us are using 1/4 i would go with that _________________ XBOX ver.1

What happens if I were to not use a resistor? I did it for a few seconds and it works fine, but I'm concerned that something may happen. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think anything would happen to the XBox if you did not use a resistor, (but something could) but your led would burn mighty fast and you'd have to re-install it all anyways. I forgot a resister on an eject light mod and had a half circle a week later... _________________ XBOX v1.6:

I also do the leds in controller ports i usly only use 1 led per contorller port what i do is simple i make a (pcb) board basicly what the board does is i throw four resters and get my ground from my 12volt fan adapter and the posstive from that adapater as well then run four posstive wires off of that board i use and 4 - wires off of the board as well drill little holes in the controller ports (REMMBER TO LIFT THEM UP BEFORE DRILLING LOL SO YOU DONT DRILL THE WIRES) then i slide led in just till it grove in the led then it stops usly right at the edge then put hot glue around the led and get your leds faceing outwords 100% insstend of bending them in there
I kinda like that way going off of the board because all i would have to do to change a led is heat up the glue slide it out of the little hole i made in controller port and resolder a new one in and glue it in again
HERE allitle info for other guy on what resters to use for the power from the xbox and ms leds 35
I use on this board i made
LEDS (12 volt power, LED 3500mcd @20ma 3.6volt) I used resistor 470ohm
LEDS (9 volt power, LED 3500mcd @20ma 3.6volt) I used resistor 270ohm
LEDS (5.04 Volt power [Contorller], LED 3500mcd @20ma 3.6volt) I used resistor 75ohm
Also can check out this website put your info in the boxes to get more voltages for resistors to buy link below
