So I've noticed when I rip movies that you can't just say choose the movie and play it. Well I don't think you can, if you can and i"m an idiot feel free to let me knwo! Anyways I don't have a DVD-ROM in my PC so I can't rip the DVD on it and do all the spiffy stuff IE Divx them for easy watching. Is there anyway to rip the movie using the Xbox and make it all pretty. I don't care about the size I just want to select the name and play it. Kinda like choosing the games I want to play! Thanks!

1) you can open the first VOB file with XBMC and it will play the whole movie.

2) after you rip the dvd to your xbox you probably should download it from your xbox via ftp and compress it using dvd shrink to save hdd space. then upload it to your xbox. it sounds like alot of work but it will save you alot of hdd space...a dvd movie can be anywhere form 6gb-12gb from what ive seen.

The vob thing doesn't always seem to work for me. It likes to play some as a movie clip, going back to XBMC after that particular file is done. But I'll try the DVD shrink thing. Thanks!

12GB? I thought DL disks only held up to 8.5GB?

At any rate, I use some DVD To AVI/DivX software to format the DVD over to .avi file. I can usually take a 7GB movie and compress it down to a 600MB DivX movie.

i don't compress anything myself, but do alot of downloading. i've seen quality vary highly in the 600-705 MB (701 and a lil more make me alugh as its to big to fit on cd-r) i've seen absolutely shit rips and have seen perfect ones. if it is a movie i particulary want in high quality, such as LoTR, Revenge of the Nerds, or Pimp My Ride, i prefer to get in the 1 to 2 gig range to maintain dvd quality. the only time i get 4.7 straight up dvd rips are when my girlfriend nags me for a movie she can watch on her dvd player. i gonna get her a modded Xbox eventually Smile

I stopped all other methods when I got DVDShrink! I Love it!

I tried almost everything else, even bought a $400 magnavox DVD recorder, but I didnt want to sit & watch 99% of the movies while they recorded. Either the compression on the Mag. sucked or my digital signal processor (disables copyright prot. allowing the DVD recorder to record) distorted the picture too much, but no matter how I copied them the quality was always questionable on a HD or 63" big screen. Not to mention AUDIO. The DVD recorder/signal processor combo didnt support surround sound & I dont think all the computer software does either.... The avi's I have dowloaded do not have surround sound.

DVD Shrink always looks & sounds identical to the original!

I save my HD for games....I have the dvdxcopy software, netflix and a shitload of blank discks (I only copy ones I own) takes about 30 mins a movie just throw it in the DVD drive, put a blank in the recorder and hit copy. Gets menus and all. blank media is pretty cheap so I just assume have a permanet backup. If anyone wants the software (its banned now you cant buy it) lemme know and I'll email it to ya.
