Havent heard of anyone doing this as the drive is already formatted for the xbox. Only way to get those files is to put it back in your box and FTP. You can make it into a PC HD but youd have to erase it first, thus losing the files you want to access. _________________ Xbox v1.0

Are you trying to get your old gamesaves??
If so, you can just reswap HD's and use a program like XboxSaves MGR. There's a little more to it than that, but it is doable.

no i was just wondering if i would be able to save my hd as a backup , incase anything happens to my new hd and it gets wiped or crashes... or if my mod chip fries "knock on wood" or when the new xboxes hit the market and ...lol...maybe im looking to far ahead ha!

If you are just looking to keep your old HD as a backup, that is not a bad idea. But what I would do is make a decision if you want to keep the drive locked or unlocked. Personally, I would unlock it.
This way, if your mobo dies you still have this drive to work with another mobo and your mod chip.
