Hi everyone, I recently got my hands on an OG crystal clear XBOX that I bought dirt cheap. When I plug it in it boots up with an error 16. I have a modchip called DUO X3 and I wanted to use it to bypass the error. There aren't many tutorials for this modchip on the web but I was able to find one. Turns out my XBOX has a motherboard version 1.6 so I had to rebuild the LPC. After soldering all the wires in place(not the best soldering work) it does a weird boot and gives no image on the screen. Am I doing something wrong, should I use another modchip? The pictures of my work are located on the folder, I am new to the modchip community so feel free to correct any mistakes of mine.

You have to load a bios for the v1.6 console onto the chip. The chip can load 2 different bios, one to each chip using the switch.
Now the other problem you have, is the dashboard isn't loading correctly. This could be because of a failing harddrive, or failing dvd drive stopping the dashboard loading, timeout error to error16.
I would get smaller gauge wire and clean up your lpc rebuild first, and then let's see what happens.

If the chip is prioritised then with nothing flashed to it or there not being a launchable dash in the locations it is looking then problems with a dash loading are to be expected.
Particularly if the console was softmodded originally then the eventual default dash that will tried to be launched by the chip, whatever the BIOS, is usually C:\xboxdash.xbe.
Pre-softmod that is the MS dash but post-softmod typically instead it is re-tasked and tries to launch the redundant Xbox Live. Result = blank screen or dashboard error.
What should fix this, assuming there is not a chip install problem and if the DVD drive is working OK, will be an installer disc like AID. The disc should walk you through a dash install for a chipped Xbox if all is well.
Burning the AID disc or alternative installer should be done on DVD-R media preferably using ImgBurn with its default "Write image to disc" settings. These are pretty much an Xbox disc burning standard and if the installer disc won't boot chances are you have a DVD drive issue.
BTW an AID disc can take 45+secs to launch from disc so don't get worried if all you see initially is a blank screen.
If you do have a DVD drive issue then it is going to be a FATXplorer solution required. That will build a FATX formatted HDD with hardmod suitable dash set up on PC.
Even then in either case there could still be a problem because we don't know what the default BIOS is on the DUO X3 and therefore the path(s) it is set up to use to launch the main dash.
If it is popular BIOS with a C:\evoxdash.xbe main dash then you should be OK but if the chip has previously been used and the BIOS modified then who knows?

The duo x3 comes preflashed with Cromwell on bank 1, and x2 on bank 2, you have to flash the v1.6 to either bank before you can can rebuild the drive. I have the duox3 and installed probably 100 of them. Also, looking around the lpc rebuild looks like there's a solder joint bridging to a pad as well.

I should note, I got these direct from the manufacturer, I beleive diveneo and romasia flashed the v1.6 bios to bank 2, maybe move the switch to the far side and see if it boots to the xecuter2 splash screen.

Useful and interesting info - I've no experience with the Duo x3, just Xecuter 2.6CE (which came pre-flashed with v1.6 Evox M8+ v1.6 BIOS) and Aladdin type likewise. I'm a noob when it comes to other chips.
So if it is pre-flashed but with Cromwell and X2 and not a v1.6 Xbox friendly BIOS I'd assume the OP would need to flash it from disc. If not how?

You're correct, it has to be flashed by Hexen or with AID (which I always used). There was no programmer for this chip, just a 3 pole switch, off, bank1 bank2. Choose which bank and flash accordingly.
OP, let us know what happens ar the flubber screen, do you see the xecuter logo at the bottom of the "x" before it errors? Keep switching one by one and let us know. Also, does your disc drive work, or is it an unknown. A dead motherboard on the discdrive may, and it's a big maybe cause the error 16. It happens when the Xbox can't detect it, so it cant figure out master/slave on cable select. that's a special bios in itself for dvd delete.

The BIOS flashed to the modchip must not have the err16fix to skip the check for loss of date/time data and the stock dashboard's file to set the date/time is not found on the hard drive. Thus, error 16 is displayed.
