Hello everybody.
My name is Martin.
First of all, sorry for my bad English, I tried my best.
And please, remember that this is my first Xbox and I know (now) that i made a few bad decisions with this one. I just went with f*ck around, find out attitude
Let me tell you a story about my XBOX that i brought 1 month ago and now its just bricked (i think). I hope you can help me with my situation or, at least, better assess it. i am newbie on this forum, but i am looking forward to be an active member of it.
I bought a used Original XBOX.
Some information about it:
Version 1.0
Year: 2002/09
MODCHIP: XChanger 2.5 (unknown bios)
Changed HDD(in 2004).
Time-lapse of events:
When I first started this xbox everything was all right. I played some HDD game, some DVD game, everything was working all right. I managed to take some pictures from dashboard before the shit goes down. I had some dashboard preinstalled, so I change it to EvoX.
I tried the FTP. Only thing I did, was, that I changed the IP adress to DHCP. Then I restarted the console and get error 13.
After another restart I got error 16 (i don´t have a photo, I got this error in original bios and in custom bios) and it never changed to another error.
In modchip I got an error: something in the lines of IDE sector error (I don´t have a photo)
OK. I am new to this xbox console. I had it for like 3 hours. I tried some things. I cleaned the xbox from inside, changed thermal paste, changed the PATA cable, wiggle modchip, switch drive and HDD. Nothing helped.
Then, I tried EvoX Auto-installer DVD. I tried booting it from a MOD Chip menu, via Linux boot and got this error, respectively, I got error on this screen that was something like linuxboot.cfg not found.
Then i tried updating MOD Chip software through FTP. It worked ok.
After some attempts I managed to get to point where the Slayers DVD kind of overlaps the BIOS loading screen and I heard som weird HDD noises.
Then I tried the HDD in my PC. I used xboxhdm23usb. It wasn´t consistent with HDD detection, so I figured that the HDD was bad. Then I just swapped HDD for my spare one. Effortlessly boot to Slayers DVD (not via linux boot, through Restart), Hit save BIOS/eeprom and after that I hit New Install/Full rebuild.
After that? My xbox is giving me FRAG lights. 3 reboot and red and green.
And after that? I changed the HDD back and forth, check Mod Chip, cables. everything looks alright. I even tried to remove the mod chip and original HDD. Nothing works.
Can you please help me? Is this Xbox bricked? Did I just reflash all bioses with that DVD?
And why on earth was that MODChip menu so weird, not aligned in the picture?
I can provide some additional information and pictures and I will try everything you tell me.
Thank you very much for your help, condolence or some Info maybe.

Chips and BIOS are not my thing so I'm probably not going to be able to help much.
If the chip is still OK you should be able to cold boot an installer disc with any (unlocked) clean/new HDD installed. That is what the chip is there to be able to do. If it did not you would not be able to install a dashboard on the HDD.
With the chip removed or disabled you would only be able to boot from an original, locked Xbox HDD. So without that you cannot test whether the Xbox works without the chip.
As I understand it you are saying that the Xbox is not booting at all now, yes? So no chip menu or other dashboard loading at all, yes?
Fragging is typical of a hardware problem and most typically in a chipped Xbox, the chip or its connections.
From what you have said I cannot say for sure that anything you did initially actually caused the problems. FTPing, installing a new dash from disc should not have resulted in a fragging machine.
But messing about inside the Xbox, changing the thermal paste and whatever else you did might have done so, accidentally. It would be just a wild guess exactly what did happen so I won't even speculate.
As for the chip menu text line up question: I'm thinking it is simply a display format issue. You're using widescreen; Xbox dashboards particularly early ones are meant for 4:3 display. I'd suspect if you swapped the TV format to 4:3 the text would line up as it is supposed to do.
In regard to the photos:
It looks as if the chip most likely has an Evox M8+ BIOS either that or an earlier Evox BIOS.
The error 13 screen was a dashboard loading/missing fault and that typically turns into an error 16 when the Xbox clock capacitor loses power. But even with an error 16 a chipped Xbox should still be able to cold boot an installer disc which would fix that.
The Xbox BIOSCHECKER app info is normal for a chip using a customised BIOS. If the hash is not in the BIOSCHECKER.xml reference list which the app uses it cannot identify the BIOS at all. So saying the BIOS is unknown is nothing significant.
Same applies to the Slayers installer disc screen which BTW is just a modified EvoX dashboard.

Thank you for your respons and answers. Yes, right now i am unable to boot. So no chip menu, no dashboard. When i remove modchip or HDD, still the same. I am not sure if it has something to do with my cleaning inside console. Becose after the cleaning, everything went wll. But after the Installation from Slayers DVD this happened. I dont know what happened. Is The Slayers DVD changing BIOS? I did : new install/ full rebuild option and, as i said, after restarting this happened.
My question is: can i do somethink about it? Is it possible/good idea to look for new motherboard?
Again, thank you very much for your help. I have nobody else to turn to.

As said BIOS and chips are not my area of knowledge really even though I've been using a chipped Xbox for years; it was chipped 'professionally' and I've never messed with it since.
Trying to boot without the chip isn't going to work unless the HDD is locked and there is a boot-able dashboard C:\xboxdash.xbe.
I suggest in the absence of others replying that you search for another original Xbox forum with the specialist knowledge you need.
kaosengineer who sometimes posts here is very knowledgeable on that sort of thing so I recommend Googling him.

Ty to download this installer and burn it to a blank dvd using imgburn. Insert the dvd and then turn the Xbox off. Now turn on and see if it will boot directly into the installer disc. You’re using outdated methods to build your HDD and update your mod.
Looks like the X-Changer 2.5 OS's menu was made for a 480i resolution screen, not a high-definition widescreen resolution.

What is the new hard drive model?
Error 13 occurs if you are using a SATA hard drive and adapter with the stock 40-wire 40-pin IDE cable.
Solution: Swap out the stock IDE cable for a high-speed 80-wire 40-pin IDE cable.

error 16 at this point is clock loop isn't it? if it persists you may need a newer bios on your modchip
EDIT: just done some reading and it seems that it is possible you may have overwritten the modchips OS somehow using slayer. I would get an open Xenium for it.
I use a 40 wire ide ribbon with my sata adaptor, it works fine, in fact I can't use an 80 wire as it causes problems and from what I understand this is to do with having a Samsung DVD drive, Samsungs are my favourite and most of my xbox's have them. _________________

Thank you everyone for your time with this problem.
I am using PATA drive with stock cable, i tried different cable but nothing changed.
I must tell that those Errors i got on the screen (error 13 and 16) may be becouse of HDD corruption. Its possible that this console was unused for some years and i wouldnt be suprised if the HDD was bad.
But the FRAG i got later, thats waht i am worried about. Thats the main and actual problem.
I have time today so i did some work.
I tried downloading , burning OGXBOX dvd as Dkoots sugested. But no luck. The thing is, that this FRAGing is happening before it got any chance to boot from DVD. The HDD and DVD drive are starting way after the FRAG led signal.
I tried to unplug DVD, HDD, controller conectors from Motherboard, lift motherboard from case to avoid some short-circuit and got same FRAG signal. I suppose it is motherboard issue.
As blighty said, its most possible couse.
But my question is: When i unplug the modchip i should get onscreen error about HDD or somethink like that? I think that it overwritten BIOS and MODchip BIOS. Is it possible?
Today i discovered some suspicious resistor near CLOCK capacitor. I got corect OHMreading from him. Its the only thing on motherboard that is looking to couse problems.
