I'm not understanding what "original dash" is being referred to here.
Any AID/SID can reinstall the MS dash as long as there is a valid MS dash backup in the designated MS E:\Backup\folder. That will, non-optionally, have been created by SID during the softmod.
If it has been deleted for some reason you can use AID to create a MS dash backup there from its own backup menu. Alternatively you could copy in stock files from another source BUT that can more dangerous as some stock files may come from dashes with incompatible kernels.
At least I think that's what the problem is - all I know is that not every MS dash version will boot on every Xbox.
I backed up one set of MS stock files on a PC intending to use them as a universal backup. As a precaution I thought I had better test them on all my Xboxes. Good thing I did because it worked on some but not on others.
There might be other reasons for this ie. forgetting to update the MS dash to the latest version before softmodding.
But what it means, particularly if you did not do the softmod yourself, is that you must check that the MS dash backup you have will actually boot before using AID /SID to remove the softmod.
Use the UnleashX or XBMC file manager and click on the xboxdash.xbe in that backup folder first. It should launch a fully functioning MS dash.
Be aware too that any xboxdash.xbe found anywhere else other than in the designated E\:Backup\MS folder with a softmod is not always the same thing. It is most likely a renamed Xbox Live or online updater.XBE.
This is another reason why you need to test the MS dash backup you have before actually using it and if you've connected your Xbox to the internet unplug it before doing anything like this.

I wasn't sure what he meant either. I don't know about you but I'm not too familiar with THC at all.. Here are all the matches in our homebrew database.
tHc Original is a modified version of the original MS Xbox Dashboard. The dashboard includes a replacment CLOCK, a SKIN SELECTER, a CONFIG-ERATER, a MUSIC MANAGER, a USER MANAGER. Current Release: Unknown _________________ HQ Network:

I've a small collection of older dashboards, some from old AID discs which used to included Anod (Another Dash). It was a bit broken and its icon hijacked other things so I just deleted it and archived the files.
It was not included with AID AFAIK but I have a THC Lite version I found somewhere but I'm pretty sure I could not get it to work or there was some other serious problem. I think that was archived too but I can not remember where.
Its really redundant now like the other older Xbox dashes that you can find references to with a bit of research. But the question is why would anyone want them? EvoX and Avalaunch are the only ones which still have genuine usefulness as applications.
UnleashX is better in all respects and can be skinned/customised to a high level reasonably easily too.
There is of course XBMC as well, which for multi-media use is peerless and many times more sophisticated than any other Xbox dash. Far less easily skinned because of that so if you're looking to modify your dash UnleashX is your baby.

The tHc original installer is available here at xbox-hq.com for VIP members.
It's in the VIP Downloads section under: Main - Dashboards - Autoinstallers instead of Main - Dashboards - tHc
