I just updated my old Xenium chip from v1.1 to v2.3.1 and was getting everything set up and decided to password protect my menu settings with the "Enable Password" function in the OS menu. So I click on the menu item "Enable Password" and a dialogue comes up " Yes or No" and I click on yes thinking another popup menu would come up with a password entry function to set my new password but then nothing happened after I clicked on "Yes". Nothing. Nowhere to enter my password or anything. So I back out of the menu, reboot the xbox and now the Xenium OS is asking for a password before I can enter into the menu settings and I didn't even enter a password to be set. I'm password locked out of the chip.
I removed the chip from the motherboard and slid the "safe mode" switch over to the other side hoping that would let me enter the settings and no go. Locked out.
I have the manual for the Xenium OS v2.0 but it mentions nothing about the set menu password function. There seems to be no manual for the v2.3.1 OS. I'm screwed. Not only that, I had previously set the default bios to the Xbox retail bios and then enabled the "Quick Boot" option so I can't even boot into the Xecuter2 bios and boot the Evox dash. I'm stuck booting into the Xbox retail dash untill I figure this out.
There are two terminal connectors on the chip as well as the safe mode switch. Anyone got any ideas? Does anyone know if any of oZxodus people who made the chip are still around anywhere and if there is anyway to contact any of those people and ask about it?
I think you'll need to connect the UNLOCKED Xbox HDD (if not unlocked, you'll need to unlock it using unlocking tools with a copy of the eeprom.bin backup) to a PC and add the restore factory defaults "recovery.bin" to the E:\ folder or burn a bios DVD with the restore factory defaults ISO (see attached document).
Creating a DVD is the easiest method to restore factory defaults. Burn the recover factory defaults ISO to a DVD. Else, write the HDD restore factory defaults recovery.bin with Xplorer 360 or other FATX HDD tools to E:\ on the HDD.
Flip the switch on the modchip to recovery mode (not SAFE) and power on the console (if using ISO version, load BIOS DVD in the tray) to flash the modchip with the restore factory defaults file. After flashing if the ISO version was used, remove the DVD from tray. Next, power down and flip the switch back to normal operating mode (SAFE mode). Power on again to reboot the console. Factory defaults should have been restored - no password or other user settings present.
DO NOT SET A PASSWORD FOR THE XENIUM OS!
The larger connector on the modchip is used to daisy-chain RGB LED expansion boards (see image below).

Guess what? I actually had a MiniSpy Xbox360 to PC connection kit from a long time ago hahahaha!! And it worked!!! Glory Hallelujah
The kit has an IDE to USB connector along with a SATA to USB connector for the Xbox360. I couldn't get the BoxPlorer software to load on my desktop PC running Windows7 so I had to run it on my laptop running WindowsXP.
At first I couldn't get BoxPlorer to see the Hitachi CinemaStar hard drive. So I connected my 360 to it and BoxPlorer did indeed read my 360HDD so then I was stumped cause they're both formatted in FatX. Then I messed around with the jumper pins on the 250GB Hitatchi CinemaStar HDD. Which is NOT a lockable HDD by the way. It's the same HDD that I'm complaining about <a class="fr-green" href="http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt27298.html">here in this Xbox-HQ thread</a> because it's not lockable. So I knew it was definitely UNLOCKED.
The CinemaStar has 4 jumper pin settings. Device 0 Master, Device 1 Slave, Cable Select, and Forcing Device Present (Pic Below).
It was set to Cable Select by default so then I set it to slave and Boxplorer still couldn't see the drive. Then I set the CinemaStar to "Forcing Device Present" and finally Boxplorer saw the drive.
When Boxplorer saw the drive 4 partions showed up: Partition 0, Partition 1, Partition 2, Partition 3, and partition 4. I click on partitions 0-3 and nothing shows up. It wasn't until I clicked on partition 4 that the contents of "E:" showed up with the TDATA and UDATA folders in it. Was that ever a relief. I have no idea why C: didn't show up. Unless I deleted it the other day for some reason when I was messing around with it (<a class="fr-green" href="http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt27298.html">detailed in this thread</a>).
Then I just dragged my "default settings" recovery.bin file over from my desktop into the E: parition. And actually, I just put the recovery.bin file in all 4 partitions 1-4 just to make sure.
I would advise anyone with a Xenium Modchip to ALWAYS KEEP A DEFAULT SETTING RECOVERY.BIN FILE IN THE ROOT OF E: ON THEIR BOX. That way if anything ever messes up all you gotta do is flick the recvoery switch over on the chip and boot up to restore your Xenium OS. Then just flick the switch back over to keep it from reflashing your chip every time you boot.
WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!!
Not crazy about the v2.3.1 Xenium OS. I love the FTP server being incorporated into the chip OS. And in the Network settings it even shows you your Xbox version (mine is v1.0) which is cool. BuT, I hate that password enable function. It doesn't function correctly obviously and when the "Quick Boot" mode is enabled it's supposed to boot the default BIOS when your timer setting runs out. But it doesn't. After the Quick Boot timer runs out it just rolls over to the Xenium menu settings instead of booting your set default bios to boot. Totaly useless. Think I'll probably revert back to a previous version that still has the FTP server on it but the Quick Boot function works.
In photo below what I was calling the "Safe Mode" switch is actually the recovery flash switch. I thought it was called the safe mode switch because when you flash any OS to the Xenium a splash screen comes up and it shows the switch with an arrow indicating the switch pushed towards the connector as being in "Safe Mode". The Xenium Modchip is the best chip that was ever made. That recovery mode switch oZxodus incorporated into the chip is the bomb.

Glad you were able to get it working again.
Original Xbox and 360 partition setups are different. partitions 1-3 seen by 360 tools are most likely the ogXbox's game cache partitions and partition4 is E (ogXbox numbered as 1)
ogXbox HDD space allocation and partition numbering in the order listed as space is allocated on the HDD:
Code:
Partition (N) Size Usage
0 512KB Configuration Area (Xbox Live Account data, etc)
3 750MB Game cache 1 (X:)
4 750MB Game cache 2 (Y:)
5 750MB Game cache 3 (Z:)
2 500MB System Files (C:)
1 4895MB Game Saves/Ripped Music (E:)
Drive letter to \Device\Harddisk0\PartitionN mapping (e.g. c: = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2)
Not sure about the HDD. MASTER should work or CS if you have an IDE cable that supports Cable Select operation, not all do. All 40-pin 80-wire UltraATA cables should support CS as per the standards specification but not all 40-pin 40-wire IDE cables.
The HDD should be lockable but I think it has to first be enabled. Without an initial master lock operation, I think the other locking features don't get enabled - as per the HDD's user manual.
Software tools available at HDDGURU: Victoria or MHDD software. I think there's a much newer Windows version of Victoria on the Net for download.

Wow, I assumed the CinemaStar was unlockable till you showed me that freeware HDD diagnostic software. I just went and bought a used 250GB drive off Ebay for like $17 that's lockable according to this list here:
Throwing away good money after bad. If I can get the CinemaStar locked I would rather use that one cause it's brand new/unused.
I'll post back and update if I managed to get it locked with the diagnostic software.
Thanks again for the info.

If you have a PC that has IDE hookups save yourself some time and headaches and burn an XBOXHDM disc with your eeprom and write down your HDD key and try the HDD with it. While handy the diagnostic software wont be definitive as there are drives that accept master but not user pass and XBOX if locked must be user pass, also there is software locking and security layer locking. Be sure its confirming security layer before assuming lockable.
Also looking at the jumper settings in that pic the last one should be the setting. Master with slave present.

Man I tried to wrap my head around using those MS-Dos based HDD scanners that kaos showed me. I downloaded the CD ISO for MHDD and I don't know what's up with that image but it's not bootable and it doesn't run from within windows so I can't even figure out how to run MHDD let alone actually use it. I saw in the instructions the commands for making a user password. Can't figure out how to run the dang software though.
Do you think bitLocker could get the CinemaStar Locked?

Try the Victoria v4.47 unofficial hard drive tool (attached).
If you read the CinemaStar manual (attached in a previous post), it talks about a manufacturer (OEM) first needing to set a MASTER password for locking features to work.
C_7k500_sp.pdf Page 98 wrote:
The system manufacturer or dealer who intends to enable the device lock function for end users must set the master password even if only single level password protection is required.
The password the Xbox generates is computed from the Xbox's HDDKey, HDD model number, and serial number. Thus, you'll need to use XboxHDM23USB Beta 2 or 3's locking menu item that computes the value by reading the Xbox's HDDKey from eeprom.bin saved in the folder where xboxhd.bat (XboxHDM's startup batch file is stored). The 23USB Beta 2 and 3 versions of XboxHDM run from Windows. The software expects the Xbox HDD to connected to the PC with a USB-to-HDD interface adapter (IDE or SATA).

Sweet. I got a USB to IDE adapter in my MiniSpy 360 kit ha.
The MHDD program I looked through had commands to set a user password and a master password. Will the Victoria v4.47 be able to set the master password? If it can set the master password then I should be able to just then lock or unlock the drive through the Xenium OS or the Evox dash after that right. Why will I need the XboxHDM23USB Beta?
Update:
When I tried to run the Vitoria 4.47 .exe in Windows 7 I get an error message saying that it's not a valid Win32 application. I right clicked on the .exe file and went to properties/compatibility and set compatibility to Windows 7 and I still get the same error message. Frustrating. Can't get this stuff to run. None of the .txt files that were packed in the Victoria .rar file have any content and the .mht help file won't open in FireFox either. I can't get anything in the whole .rar file to run or open. I see it's written by Russians. Is the code for the Victoria files written in Russian or something and that's why the .exe file won't open?

You need to run that Victoria program as administrator. Even if your account has admin rights that usually means with Win7 you need to use the right mouse click context menu "Run as administrator" too.
The "Victoria 40 What News" readme included with the program does appear to have been written with a Russian or other non-standard character set and is consequently unreadable in Word/Notepad.
But I came across what appeared to be a problem after the program booted, it said I was missing a driver:-
".....................
PortTalk driver not installed. Available only API access.
API access enabled, device #1"
I assumed that did mean the program was recognising the 1st HDD. I had to click on the listed HDD to get it to report its spec in the left pane but apart from that it does appear to be working with Win7 without requiring that driver.
Reading up on the PortTalk driver it would seem it was/is meant for use with Windows XP only. From other forum posts when used with Vista /Win7 and maybe later Windows as long as you get the API access enabled message it is working.
The originators' web site has a screenshot of the program in action and if you look at the bottom section that too includes those messages.

Just use XBOXHDM1.9 or 1.9b and be done with it lol. Its easy peasy, burn a disc and put it in. Turn off the PC hook up the hard drive and boot. Pick lock HDD type lockd -a all done.

I downloaded a slightly older version of Victoria that kind of works. Version 4.46. When it loads I get the same error "PortTalk driver missing" but it still loads the program. But the problem is... Victoria is run through Windows.. will only run in windows.. and is scanning my Windows HDD. How do you get Victoria to read a USB connected drive?
And I see the Security section in the interface. Complete with Master Password or User Password enable/disable function. I also see where my Windows HDD information says "Security: Not supported". That could mean my Windows drive manufacturer also did not set a master password for that drive. Which is a bad omen because it also seems to be locking out Victoria from enabling a master password. Which means Victoria will neither be able to enable a master password for the IDE drive because the manufacturer did not set one. The only way to find out is to get Victoria to see the USB connected IDE drive.
Update: I also see where it says "LBA 48 bit" right beside it there is an entry "Removeable". So it should scan a USB connected drive. Too bad the dang instructions are in Russian. I can't be screwing around and experimenting with this thing while it's connected to my Windows HDD. Might screw something up bad that I can't fix.
Update #2: I just figured somthing out. Look up in the upper right hand box of my Victoria scan. It says
0 - 1863 GB MB0200EAZNL (that's my Windows HDD labeled drive 0)
1 - 0kb Invalid Geometry (that's the IDE drive connected via USB)
D: - 0 CD-ROM (my DVD drive labeled drive D: )
Victoria can't read my IDE drive connected by USB. Maybe because it's formated in FatX? But that shouldn't matter. It reads the firmware for the scan information, not whatever partitions are on the drive.
Update #3: So I woke up and smelled the coffee and clicked on the IDE drive up there and hit the "Passport" button and this is what the scan reads. And then experimenting on the drive I hit the sleep button to stop the spindle from spinning and at the bottom it says it's being read as a SCSI drive. Which it's not SCSI. It's ATA (PATA). Being read through the USB port it recognizes it as a SCSI drive. That means I would have to find a USB to SATA adapter and hook it up to my mother board and set it as a slave drive and the Windows HDD as a master drive in order for Victoria to read the IDE drive correctly.

I hate sound trifling, but what if I wanna unlock the drive again for whatever reason? I would like to be able to lock or unlock the driver through the Xenium OS or the Evox dash. It looks like the only way to be able to do that is to set a master password first according to the drive manual.

It should be able to do so.

The way I interpret the manual's info on your model of the Hitachi HDD is that "a master password must first be set before other IDE password features are enabled." Therefore to answer your question, yes!

I forgot...doh! Working with a modchip doesn't require the HDD to be locked. You are correct XeniumOS can be used to lock the drive.
The only reason I mentioned using XboxHDM23USB Beta 2 or 3 with a USB adapter was to allow the user of a PC without an IDE interface to set up a new HDD for the Xbox. If using Victoria 4.47 on a PC with an IDE interface that's running Windows, instead of using a USB-to-IDE adapter attach the Xbox IDE HDD to an IDE interface on the motherboard.

Start vcr447.exe by right-clicking on it and using "Run as administrator". It starts for me doing this in Windows 10. Not so, without doing so. Starts with errors informing me about a driver install problem, needing administrative rights and an integer division error when just started by double-clicking on it.
It's a .7z archive that I downloaded; did you get a .rar file?
There was no .mht but a .htm file, vichlp.htm. Opened 4 me in Google Chrome and was translated from RU to EN language.
IIRC, not all USB-to-IDE adapters support pass-thru of the entire ATA command set especially the security commands of the IDE standard.
I'd attach the 250GB CinemaStar IDE drive directly to an IDE interface port on the motherboard if available. Not sure what restrictions if any the current USB-to-IDE adapter has. I'd try a different adapter. It may work much better than the one you are currently using.

XBOXHDM works in both directions and its Linux Lock feature is by far the easiest and straight forward plus there are tools right on the XBOX like Configmagic and UnleashX for locking and unlocking.
