i have read and read and read to no avail , my question is ,is there not a way to mod the xbox without hot swap , modchip,or exploit?
the reason im asking is i have no way to get the original games ,i dont have a pc with ide cables and i dont have money for a mod chip
also im sorry if this was answered already ,
ps it seems to me that you should be able to use action replay to boot a burnt iso of a game or ftp a file into the xbox
thanks

Sorry, but there is no way mod an Xbox without one of those three things. You'll either need to get an exploitable game off ebay or something similar, or you'll need to find a PC that has IDE ports on it. Sorry _________________

Mod chips are quite cheap, you can buy one for under $30. There was a thread I posted on here somewhere about places you can buy chips. _________________

Dartht33bagger is right. Can't you borrow splinter cell game from someone? Splinter cell should also be very cheap to buy used.
All you need is a compatible USB stick. Most people have these about. Then you could make or buy a USB to XBOX lead. You can get the exploit files around the web free. That is the easiest and cheapest way to do it. _________________ I'm a new Xbox Mod Noob and i'm no expert.

Anymore I would only recommend a mod chip to someone with a 1.6 Xbox since you can't TSOP those. Otherwise, go with a TSOP. Softmods can be a real pain even if you know what you're doing, so I try to avoid them if possible. _________________

I dont believe you can ftp the iso but you can use C-Xbox tool to extract the files from the iso then ftp to the xbox HDD very easily or if you plan on keeping the original HDD (You'll only be able to fit 1 or 2 Games MAX) then you could burn the iso to a compatible blank disc (It depends on what dvd drive you have but DVD-R works perfectly on all of them I believe, at least I know it does on my Thompson drive). If you have the game files but want to make it an iso to burn to a disc just use C-Xbox Tool again(Very useful software). Let us know how the softmodding goes!

i just ordered the female usb to xbox adapter (to get the gamesave file to the xbox), and splinter cell off of ebay for a grand total of $9.00 after shipping. if you cant afford that i think you need to look into a better paying job and less time playing games, lol. got my cable today, hopefuly the game will behere tomarrow.

It sounds like you want to download games from the internet and then play those isos on your Xbox. We don't condone that kind of activity around here, so none of us will help you with that.
Now, if you actually own the game and want to make a backup of it, then we can help you _________________

oh and if i soft mod and wanna switch out to a bigger hdd , will i be able to do so being only soft modded , and if so does it have to be hot swapped?

As far as I know the only way to ftp into the xbox is to have it modded first (Soft or Hard). Once its modded yes you will be able to transfer backups to the hdd AND play burnt iso's. And as for your dvd drive, mine use to not play xbox games at all (only a few it would except, luckily Mechassault was one) but after softmodding it could play all dvd-r's perfect. And yes if you want to switch out hdd's you will need to "build" the new one making it xbox compatible. In order to build it you will need a pc with ide ports and xbhdm.

The original Xbox doesn't have a DVD key like the Xbox 360 does, so you can buy a drive off Ebay and swap into your console no problem. You may also want to look into cleaning the laser on your current DVD drive to see if that fixes the problem.
