Im using a crossover cable to FTP via Internet Explorer, I have no issues if Im trying to transfer stuff from my Xbox to PC but as soon as I try to go from PC to Xbox it will either keep popping up a box to put in my password or will give me an error message saying error 550 access denied.
Ive tried enabling annonymous login, changing the password, FTP while in dashboard, FTP while in XBMC, manualy setting the IP, cleaned my internet history and registry but I still get the same message. It doesnt make sense to me since I just put some new games on it from my PC the other day no problem but now it doesnt seem to matter what I try to transfer game saves, games, skins I get the same message.
My XBOX is running Unleashx dash version 0.39 and XBMC Babylon and my PC is WIN 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Try disabling it then try the FTP business.
or, install Total Commander and use that for your FTP needs, you can add it as an exception to your firewall after enabling it. _________________

For some reason if I leave username blank and just put in the password when that box pops up it will allow me to transfer from my PC to XBOX. It doesnt make any sense to me though since when I did it before I put in username and password. But I cant complain its working and thats all that counts.

I dont use an ftp program myself. I just added the xbox as source or part of my network I think. I dont remember exactly how I did it but I think
I had read how from the xbmc manual or something. I have to access
my xbox by going to my network places and then clicking it from there. Doesnt do too bad that way. I'm wondering if it would be faster to use an ftp program like that flashxp instead of doing it like that. I've also heard of people running avalance or evolutionx I believe as an app just because they say ftps faster that way allthough I never tried it that way so cant say anything about the speed. It doesokay when transferring little files. Big files get done but take longer. When I ftp a new build of xbmc over ab old build it takes about 5-10 mins. If anybody has any advice on how to get faster ftp or if I should be doing it another way let me know.

I havent noticed any differences between speed with Evox or Unleashx, your fastest speed I would think would come from using a crossover cable since then you are just limited by the speed of your PC and XBOX rather than internet connection and such. Eventhough I use Internet Explorer to FTP there is no actual info going over the net and I could even disconnect my PC from the net and it would still work
Takes me around 5 minutes to copy a 4gb game from my XBOX to PC and vice versa. Although times can vary depending on how many files there are to be copied

True true. I use one of those wireless gaming adapters. A linksys
one. The xbox plugs into that. I have a wireless router in the front room
which is attached to my dsl modem. I'm thinking I could just run the crossover cable from the xbox straight into the router?? I just already had tyhe linksys setup and do it that way. It works for what I need it too.
Thats pretty quick for the 4gb mame. Its takes me about 10 mins to do a ftp update of a new xbmc build. a 4gb mame disk would probably take like an hr or longer for me. I dont think I've did anything that big cause I only have the 8gig stock drive on my xbox for now. I'll have to look into things more. My next upgrade/mod will definitely be to add a bigger harddrive. 200gb+ or something. Big enough to handle my emulation needs. Other than that probaby some homebrew games here and there etc etc.

I could be wrong but I think the crossover has to go directly to a PC. If you wre to run it through a router that would negate the purpose of the crossover ie. remove the internet from the equation, you would accomplish the same with plugging your XBOX into the router with an ethernet cable since you are still relying on internet from PC to router

The fastest way to FTP is to use Avalaunch.
But ya need 2 Xboxes to do this....Avalaunch is used to FTP Info from 1 Xbox to another Xbox(back to back)
So if you want to send info from 1 Xbox to the other Xbox..use Avalaunch.
Just a Tip
Edit.
When useiing a FTP program, the cross over cable gos from ure router to ure Xbox ...why cos the router as to read the Xboxes IP address. _________________ IXtreme v1.9.

Cool man. I wasnt sure what all these heads meant when they talked about using avalanche for FTP. I took it under the impression that some people have avalanche installed as an app, run it when they need to ftp, and use it like that to ftp to your xbox from pc instead of using like xbmc as the dash. At least I got that impression thats seems like some people use that as a quick app for there ftp needs. Like if I needed to ftp something I would just run avalanche and do it like that. I'd have to look into more andd see if this is how people do it. I'm okay with the way I do it now, but it does seem a little slow. Wondering if flashxp or any of those other ftp programs would make a difference. It actually seemed a little slower when I was using flashftp, thats why I addded it as a source to my network places. In the future I might test avalanche out for that purpose. Just to see if I notice any speed increase/ difference from ftp to xbmc dash as compared to avalanche dash.

The last bit doesnt really make any sense since you can run an ethernet cable from XBOX to router and they cost like 4 bucks but a crossover runs around 15 to 20. The only reason to use a crossover is to take the internet/hub/router out of the equation and be able to directly connect a PC to an XBOX

Ermm ...Ethernet cable will not work .
Ethernet cable connects ure pc to the net.Threw a router(Ethernet internet) makes sence..?
A cross over cable connects ure xbox to ure router(ure xbox is not a pc its a Xbox)you need a cross over cable to connect ure xbox to youre network...Its like crossing ure xbox with a pc..so it can connect..to the net or another Xbox.
