I didn't get a reply in the SID forums, so I'm posting this here:
I just tried using SID 4.0 to softmod my v1.6 and everything worked well except for the eeprom backup. I backed up my other files, but this doesn't seem to work. I click on the "backup eeprom" button and it asks me if I want to start Evox to backup the files; I click yes. Then the screen goes black and it sounds like both the HDD and Disk Drive stop. It never leaves this screen. I left it there for more than an hour hoping it was just taking forever to load. It hadn't changed at all. The eject button is orange the whole time.
Please help!
Edit: I used Platinum Hits Splinter Cell with a linker and SID 4 both from Action Replay's site and loaded onto a memory card.

Hey, welcome to Xbox-HQ, and it seems as if your xbox has locked up. The only thing left to do that I know of is to perform the reboot, if it doesent want to boot up again, unfortunately you might have to re-build your whole Hard Drive with XboxHDM or another similar Xbox HDD application. If when you reboot, your Xbox gives you a error, please let us know as each error means something different. I'm sure that it will work fine since that it was only "Backing Up" and it wasent writing anything to your HDD or anything. So all I can think of is to perform a reboot. _________________

Hi BurningPlayd0h,
There are other apps you can use to backup your eeprom.. Try config magic or similar tools.. Im pretty dam sure you can backup your eeprom using that.. (shoot me down in flames everyone if im wrong but i've been spending too much time at work and not enough time at play! lol, know what i mean?)
Thanks for the help, I'll try a installer file. It was simple enough to reboot too, the screen locked up but I was able to restart and get back to the dashboard.
Unfortunately, (I'm not really sure if this is related to the other problem) I went to load up Splinter Cell to see if the installer still worked, but my disk drive wouldn't open. It made a thump like it was trying and it moved a little, but it is stuck closed. Could the gears be stuck? If so I can buy another Xbox from a friend for $10.
Once again, thank you guys for all the help. Hope to have my softmod up and running soon!

Same thing happend to mine, and I had to hit it on the top a few times for it to open, haha. I opened it up, and just manually opened and closed the DVD Tray and took it apart and put it back together, and that fixed it for me. You might want to try that. Anyways, good luck! _________________
