Hi guys and girls,
I'm new to the original xbox... Have two xboxs (well three including the 360). A 1.1 and a 1.6
I've had them both apart and they are quite simple hardware wise.
First of all which is easier to mod? 1.1 or 1.6? Which would be best for XBMC usage?
I've got a few spare HDDs (a Maxtor 80Gb and a Western Digital 40Gb both lockable... Although I won't be using Live on them so as far as I know I don't need to lock either of them...).
The main role of the systems will be for streaming media from the PC or Servers.
They will be playing some xbox originals (including backups - from my original disks of course) and some emulators.
I've seen how to softmod... But I'm not keen. (unless there is a way to do so without an action replay and certain game)
I want to chip using a solderless setup (easier for me to reuse later on)
But where on earth do you find a chip supplier in the UK?
And which chip is best for my intended uses?
And where do you find software resources these days? They seem to be disappearing...
Hi,
Both of them will run a softmod with ease, upgrading the harddrive will be silghtly more complex on the v1.6.
you could flash the TSOP on the v1.1 (theres no flashable tsop on the 1.6) this would give you the same benefits of running a mod chip (it would be hard modded, rather than softmodded)
Putting a chip in the 1.6 is slightly more difficult than installing one in the 1.1 due to extra soldering needed to rebuild the LPC
Stick with modding the v1.1
Im in the UK and can stick the softmod files on a memory card if thats any help to you ...... Ive also got a couple of `cheapmod` style chips if needed _________________

So keep the 1.6 as an original/backup/spare parts...
So flashing the TSOP (I think I know how to disable the write protection on the TSOP... Two little joints need bridging on either side of the board)
But would this be like running a softmod to create a hardmod? So start like softmod, flash TSOP and end up with hardmod?
So I'm going to need MechAssault/007/SplinterCell...
Its a little tricky trying to bridge the gaps, use a low watt soldering iron, i use a 18w (or bridge them with the halfords stuff)
once soldered download AID http://aidtracker.com/ (read the manual) it has a Bios flash tool that you can add to the .iso before burning
you want to flash the xbox with a 1mb bios file (1024kb) i recommend the x2 5035 .137 bios.
should everything go ok it will function exactly like having a modchip in there.
(you will have flashed it with a bios off the xecuter x2 range of modchips)
(have a look at the TSOP chip, if its a Winbond post back because you`ll need a different method to flash it) _________________

Well done, thats certainly one of the more `involved` ways to get a softmod up and running. _________________
