Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 3:16 pm Post subject: New to Xbox-HQ advice with XBMC and emulators
Some background info:
My brother gave me his xbox (manufacturer date 2003-09-23).
120GB harddrive not sure what brand.
Not sure what brand DVD drive but I know it can't play CDRs.
I think it has a modchip not sure what kind.
When I start it up the xbox screen shows Xecuter2.
Then it shows I believe an EvoX dashboard menu with
Games/Programs/Power Off/Reboot/Launch DVD GameMovie/Microsoft Dashboard/Choose Wallpaper/System utils
Has two programs dvd2xbox and video switch
Question:
The xbox works fine and can play backup copies. I would like to be able to also use XBMC so I can watch video clips as well as Emulators. Not sure how to go about this. I've read through tutorials etc... but still get confused over the terms being used etc...
I'm basically looking for step by step advice on how to get xbmc and emulators without changing my existing xbox and how it operates. Last thing I want is to attempt to do this without asking for advice and have my perfectly working xbox turn into a paper weight.
Sorry for the long post, any advice would much be appreciated so thanks in advance!
Your best bet would be to download Auto Installer Deluxe : http://aidtracker.com/ It will install XBMC and the Emulators (plus a load of other things, if you want them) simply by clicking a couple of buttons ..... It comes with a comprehensive manual that covers everything on the disc.
If you get stuck or need any more info post back. _________________

We really need to know if it is a soft mod or chipped xbox so we don't give you the wrong info here.

yeh, like wes said.. We need to know if your have a modchip or softmod installed.. Eitherway its not a drama but you will need to know so you can choose to install XBMC from the right area in Auto Installer Deluxe.
My brother isn't 100% sure but from what he believes
The xbox has been modchipped and then software modded with Xecuter2
Not sure if that makes sense or is possible?

if thats the case then it should just be a case of putting aid into the dvd drive and that will format the 120gb hdd for you,if its above 125bg(i think)
then you need a different bios.

Does this mean i will lose everything
-game saves, backsups, programs etc...
Hi, AID wont automatically format your harddrive, it will format it if you tell it to, its quite safe to use.
If you just want to try XBMC and install a couple of Emulators, load AID then find XBMC under the `Applications` section and install it to your F partition, same goes for the Emulators, install those to `F` also.
Im not sure that XBMC or the Emulators will show up in the EVOX menu without you editing the Ini file, do you have `Boxplorer` as an application on your xbox ? _________________

You'll need to have an FTP program to access the Xbox via network (PC).
Get CuteFTP. _________________ With knowledge, comes great power.

Make sure you get a copy of your eeprom from the xbox before you do anything to change the xbox, if you have a soft mod and do a chip dash install you will crash the xbox and need the eeprom to repair it.

Well so far not good
I have only just noticed that the xbox doesn't detect any cds or dvds so i'm going to have to replace the dvd drive before I can attempt anything else.
I'm guessing that dvd drive problems are sort of common and there's nothing else I can do but replace it?
initially I tried my dvdr that I made then when that didnt work I tried other burnt media cdrs/cdrws and finally original games and audio cds all which received the dirty disc read error or no disc in tray.
Therefore i believe the only alternative is to swap the dvd drive unless it is a software problem which I doubt but im open to all suggestions.

Just a quick question, are you patching the xbe file before you are burning the new iso? _________________ With knowledge, comes great power.
