Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone who changed the fan of xbox , achieved significant low noise from the xbox. I know that through XBMC I can set the fan speed (although I'm not sure how wise is this when used for videos since the cpu load can create hellish environment inside xbox) but still seems noisy enough.I wanted to know if changing the fan creates a good HTPC quiet room environment and its worth the work to achieve this. Is there anything else that can be done apart from this? My seagate hdd is quite silent at least but totally pointless with all the rest of decibels.

I havnt replaced the fan yet, plan on it. But i figure it would just depend on the fan your replacing it with.

Look for specific quiet fans, like this one,
Code:
http://www.quietpcusa.com/Noctua-NF-R8-Quiet-Computer-Fan-80mm-P85C0.aspx

At 1800 rpm its only 17 dBA. thats not even as loud as a cats pur.. just for comparison, a typical cats pur is 20-22 dBA.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I am also planning to replace it with a 16db fan. But I was not sure about other noisy factors inside xbox. For example the PSU. So if the root of evil is just the fan, then I'm going to replace the fan asap!

Nice tech info for the cat pur by the way Cool

Are there any new recommendable 80mm fans out there?
As quiet as possible, but still with enough cfm / m³/h?
