I've got my xbmc running pretty much the way I want it to, however I want "more". Okay, I have a full 1tb hard drive on this thing containing about 700g (and growing) of tv shows. I also have a DVD full of classic (70's & 80's) commercials and PSA's in divx. This is what I want to do:
Under the Video section, have a sub-menu that says "TV Night" or whatever. When I open that up, I will be presented with another set of choices. For instance, it will include "All", "Sitcoms", "SciFi", "Documentary" and others. When I pick a genre, for sake of argument I pick Sitcoms, I want the following to happen:
1. It will randomly pick a tv show (eg Corner Gas)
2. It will pick the next show that hasn't been viewed. Let's say S01E01 as this is the first time running it.
4. It will the play that episode and when it's done, it will tag it as "viewed"
5. Now it will pick a random "commercial" or two (for fun / a break) to play
6. Now it goes back to step 1 and starts over however when it gets back to Corner Gas, it will see that S01E01 has been played and will choose S01E02 to play. This way shows that have continuity between episodes will be shown in order.
What I'm trying to create here is essentially a bunch of "tv networks" which will play a random tv show and then play episodes. The catch is that it's not completely random and that it will play the episodes in order. The commercials are just for "fun" and a break between tv shows. I'm trying to make it "mindless" where it will run in the background just as if I chose the ScFi Channel on my satellite and didn't pay much attention to watching it. I don't know enough about the "library" and "party mode" to know if I can do this using either of those or not...
Does this make sense? I'm having a tough time trying to explain what I want to do. _________________ Xbox v1.0 with

Hmmmm....you are saying that you want it to randomly pick a show, lets say, I dream of genie, and play all of the episodes you have, seperated by commercials, and then move on to like, the A-team or something and do the same thing?

Kind of... This would be an example of the "flow"...
1: Pick a random show (I Dream of Genie) and play the first unviewed ep (s01e01)
2: Pick a random commercial (or two or three, whatever)
3: Pick a random show (A-Team) and play the first unviewed ep
4: Pick a random commercial (or two or three, whatever)
5: Pick a random show (picks I Dream of Genie again) and plays the next ep that hasn't been shown (s01e02)
6: Plays a random commercial (or two or three, whatever)
Ideally, the viewer could pick a specific genre or "all". Obviously after all eps have been shown, the flags would be cleared and it would start over again. However, the key is that it will not flag a show as being viewed unless it is viewed with this method. This way if someone wanted to specify which show they wanted, they could do so and still have it in the "rotation".
Does that help? It's difficult for me to explain what I'm thinking... _________________ Xbox v1.0 with

You need a couple of scripts from xbmcscripts.com. The first one is Autostartmanager v1.6. This will allow to pick any script or file to automaticly start at boot. The second script you need is StartupVideoDir v0.1. You can modify this script to play videos from any set of folders you like.
As far as only playing only new content, the only way I know how to do that would be to keep the new content in the predesignated folder. Once you have veiwed a vid you will have to remove it from your folder manually.
At least you will have random play at startup.

Well i think you could modify the script to move the files to another folder after they are viewed

If you pull that off please email me a copy of the script.

This is a little off subject. I've modded a few xboxs in the past the largest was w/ a 320 gb hard drive. I see you said you have a 1tb hard drive in yours. Isn't there a size limit and if not do I need updated dashboards to run w/ a larger hard drive. It's been 2 years since I looked in to it so I'm sure I'm a little behind. Thanks for any advice you can give.
To get over the 137Gb limit you need a bios that supports lba48 - most recent bios or softmods offer this.
Then to keep the harddrive from corrupting you need to use xbox partitioner to format the drive into a couple of partitions, using 32 bit clusters or a larger partition, using 64 bit clusters. _________________
