So I soft modded my Xbox and everything was great until I got stupid. I wanted XBMC instead of Evox, so I FTP'ed into the Xbox found where the dashboard was and moved it (and all associated files in that folder) into a new folder and put the XMBC files in the now empty folder. I then rebooted and guess what, it sticks on the Xbox boot screen. I can still play games off their original disc, but can't ftp in to fix it.
Any ideas or did my stupidity doom me to weeks of work to fix something I broke in a minute?
I should mention that all files should be still there I just need a way to reorganize them.

Can you FTP into the box? I assume not if it sticks on the Xbox logo screen.
I would use SID to reinstall the softmod for you, so that you have adash up and running again and start over. If the box will boot original games, you shouldn't have too much trouble doing it.
I can't copy the saved james bond game to the HD or load it from the HD and trying to do the exploit from the card w/o copying doesn't do it either. I don't need those to restore the soft mod from the SID do I? BTW, where can I download the SID? I've read so much in the last week I know I've seen it, but don't remember where.

Yeah. It sticks on the Microsoft Screen. I can't get past that to copy the 007 gamesave onto the HD. I tried to load it from the memory card, but it causes an error telling me to call for service.
It looks like I did download it after all, but dismissed it as a way to fix my problem, b/c I can't copy the gamesave.
I tried booting the Xbox linux cd's, but that didn't get past the initial "dos-like" screen. Is there a way to see and alter the contents of the drive without ftp'ing into it? I'm not averse to taking the drive out. Unfortunately, I only have laptops, so removing my computer's HD and replacing it with the Xbox hd isn't really an option. If I could put it in a usb enclosure, could I get into it with some sort of tool in either xp or osX?

Yeah it wont work right off the card, did you back up the EEPROM?
I can tell you exactly how to get your xbox back up and running with the xbox dash.
If you need a copy of the C drive, just PM me, and I can zip/send to you.
First, get xboxhdm v1.9. Run the make win iso.bat program once you place your C drive files in the right folder (I can make an iso for you with just the C drive files if you want as well)
Now on to the HotSwapping!
Follow these directions EXACTLY and it will work the first time.
First, make sure your using a desktop computer. Laptops won't work.
Take the side off your computer so you have the guts exposed. Unplug your HardDrive's power, and IDE (grey) cable. Turn your computer on, and as soon as you see the BIOS logo (usually your manufactures logo, like Dell, or HP, or Compaq, or Sony) hit the PAUSE button on your keyboard.
With your xbox next to your computer, you'll want to take the top off, and get the hard drive lose (take out all the screws. 6 on the bottom of the case, one to free the black plastic HD holder, and 4 holding the HD into the plastic holder.) Leave it all plugged in. Turn on your xbox. As soon as flubber goes away and the X shows up, pull out the IDE cable, but leave the power cable in. Don't let it get to XBOX, just X.
Now, plug the COMPUTER IDE (grey) cable into your xbox hard drive, and put the xboxhdm linux disc into your CD/DVD drive. Press any key to unpause your computer, and let the linux disc run... it will take a few minutes to get everything going... when presented with your first menu, use option 1 for the VGA loader thingy. Then WAIT... it can take up to 5 minutes for this to load. when it askes you what to do next, type XBOXHDM (or what ever the first option is.)
Then you'll get a menu... ONLY DO 'REBUILD C DRIVE'... if you do anything else, you are 100% SCREWED! ONLY REBUILD THE C DRIVE!!!!!!
Once it's done rebuilding your C drive, it'll go back to the menu.
DO NOT POWER DOWN YOUR COMPUTER. Unplug the IDE (grey) cable, and plug it back into the xbox. Power down your xbox and PC, and then try your xbox. It should be back to the xbox dash, with full memory card/hd support!
Once you've confirmed your xbox is working, put your pc back togeather, as well as your xbox, and make sure you never delete the softmod save files ever ever ever agian. (You might even want to back up your EEPROM at this point as well)
Enjoy! Hope you get it working agian!
