Post subject: Softmodded box upgrading HDD. Need help with eeprom.bin

Situation:

XBOX v1.6 - I am original owner
Softmodded. Using UnleashX Dash
CUrrently set-up is running perectly...no problems
I do not use LIVE

Upgrading to a WD2500PB 250gb Hard Drive

Plan A) Decided to begin using XBOXHDM 1.9 to build & lock the new drive.
FTP'd eeprom.bin from Xbox to PC.
Created linux.iso with eeprom.bin in correct eeprom folder. Burned image. All goes well through the building process until I get to locking the new HD. The program tells me it completes command successfully, but then it lists the following:

Security Capable: yes
Security Enabled: Yes
Secrity Locked: No
Security Frozen: No

So it looks like XBOXHDM is not able to lock the drive with my eeprom.bin. But to be sure, I put the new drive in the XBOX and I get error 06. So based upon my understanding, this means that the eeprom.bin is bad/wrong. How can that be? So I reinstall the original HD and run ConfigMagic and backup tool. Then I used Evox and created another eeprom.bin. Now, I should have a good eeprom.bin right? So to check these eeprom.bin files, I run liveinfo Beta 3 and try to load these eeprom.bin files. It won't load either of them stating that the XBE & Video Region is incorrect! WTF? No matter which region I select, it doesn't make a difference. I get the same error message.

On to Plan B) Chimp 2.6 because I can’t get XBOXHDM lock to work and I am unable to have confidence in the eeprom.bin files I have pulled off the XBOX. I figure that the Chimp’s pulling the eeprom.bin directly from the motherboard might yield better results. I fire up Chimp through my Dash and get the garbled screen. So I try to telnet using my PC connected with a Crossover Cable. I change the settings in the Network console. Xbox IP is 192.168.0.5. Port is set at 23. Proxy is enabled. I type telnet 192.168.0.3. No joy. I keep getting an error message indicating that I cannot connect to host on port 23. WTF!

So, I am out of ideas.

A) I cannot tell whether my HDD is the culprit because I don’t know if the eeprom.bin files I am using to lock are OK because when I try to open them in liveinfo, it says XBE & Video Regions are incorrect. The error 06 supports the fact that the eeprom.bin I am pulling off the box are the problem.

B) When I run configmagic in the XBOX it loads the eeprom info automatically and here is what I get:

serial # is 00000000000000…
Video & XBE: NTSC, 0
Online Key 000000000…
DVD Kit Zone 0
Unique HD Key 0000000000…

WTF once again!

Sooooo, I am at a total loss. I have been spending the last 3 days trying to upgrade this HD, I’ve probably read every thread and cannot seem to get this fixed. Based upon this info…does anyone have any suggestions on how to rule out the HD? Why can’t I get liveinfo to open my eeprom.bin files? Where am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

This website shows your drive to be lockable

http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com

After XboxHDM confirms "successfull lock" message...can you then unlock the drive? This will confirm it is locking/unlocking correctly.

Are you setting the hard jumper to Cable select before putting it into the Xbox?

So, It might be time for you to build an EEPROM reader.

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Reading_Xbox_Hdd_key.htm

This should pull the eeprom straight from the chip. Just a suggestion.
