What is HDD spindown time? Is there any benefit to turning it on in the settings of XBMC?

The hdd spins down when the xbox feels its not being used and it seems to slow down the whole xbox when on.
I dont use it.

When I tried it out my XBOX just locked up on the screen it was on and had to be turned off then back on.

Its for keeping the cpu speed even with the hdd speed so your buffers not all over the place but you dont need to run it, it works fine without it.
