i posted this in the vip section, but im going to here for the non-vip members to offer assistance.
when i put the softmod files on the memory card and go through the process..does that do everything as far as put the dash on and everything...or at some point do i have to actually put the installer disc in (4.01)
also can you load XBMC on a sofmodded box, and still go on xbox live with that file on your hdd. even if the softmod is dissabled?

If you already have a Live account, and when you installed AID you chose the Dual Boot Hacked Dash / MS Dash option, then yes, you can still go on Live. Just boot into the MS Dash (which is normally tray open), pop in your game and off you go. This avoids the softmod, allowing you to play.
Can you restore the MS backup at a later date, setup a live account and then install the dual boot option.
I think it was possible to reinstall the original M$ dash and play live with AID2, but I have never had a live account and have never had the need to do it.
Just that I'm looking at modding another box and not sure if they will use it live later on. _________________ xbox v1.2

or does it come to a point where i have to use the disc?

Probably think this is a stupid question but;

The only problem with that would be if the box has been on live with the stock HDD and you upgrade the HDD and try and go on again. I'm pretty sure it can see its a different HDD and ban you. _________________

Im not %100 sure but i use my old account sometimes on live with my upgraded HDD and im not banned yet. I even downloaded an update off halo 2 with it. Im not saying you can't get banned just saying i havn't been banned yet. _________________

With most things modded, you take a chance. We're not saying you can't try it, but its your choice to do so, as long as you're aware as to what might happen.
Xbox-HQ doesn't recommend it, but it is only a recommendation. Ultimately, if you want to try, its up to you.
