My XBOX has been acting very irregular lately. I have a softmodded XBOX, version 1.0, and have reached that point where my box just seems to screw up whenever it wants to. It currently only turns on when it wants to, doesn't seem to last very long when it does turn on, and essentially is unplayable.

I want to replace the harddrive by cloning my current information onto another one, and also replace my power supply while I'm at it, since it may have affected the box too.

As for the hard drive, I have no idea how to do this. Is there an alternative to getting a chip? And will I be able to salvage all my data, like Forza? Or is it a different ploblem altogether? Thanks for your help.

When the xbox powers off by itself and/or is selective about powering on, then it could possibly be an overheating problem. You can sometimes fix this by opening your xbox case and blowing the dust out. The other problem could be your power supply, which can obviously be replaced.

As far as harddrive copying goes, I have used xboxhdm for a couple of softmod harddrive upgrades. This is a linux based disc that uses a pc, dvd/RW drive, and your new harddrive for the xbox. I used a dvd-r instead of a cd-r, because i found the cd-r burned iso to not work. Use THIS or the more detailed tutorial to help you recover and copy a HD. Also don't forget to read the README.TXT with xboxhdm (get xboxhdm at the usual places Wink ) XBINS... Rolling Eyes

This should help you get started somewhere.

EDIT: yes you will be able to salvage everything from your harddrive.

Chimp is also a very reliable and easy option which a lot of first time upgraders choose to use.

A tutorial for Chimp is located under my sig.

Could always get your xbox to power on once and FTP the files over to your comp then make a new drive with xboxhdm or chimp
