So over a year ago I guess I softmodded our box with AID and have had no troubles with it. About a wwek ago I updated XBMC via ftp ( i did make a backup). Any way afew days ago when I turned on the box nothing happened, just ablack screen. Turned it off,on,off,on and it booted. Now everytime you turn it on you may have the same problem and have to keep restarting until it boots. I also notice when I go to my apps that if i choose xbmc it never loads, but other apps load fine. So should i reinstall my original xbmc or is this bootup problem something more. My bootup dash is unleashed by the way, your thoughts on what might be wrong. _________________

Could also be a hardware issue. IDE cable DVDrom or HD

Sorry I havent responded been busy with holidays. Anyway sometimes the box want boot up like I said. Studman it is only a black screen not a service screen. Also the the front led doesnt flash like there is a fault either. Now it is possible that some of sons friends may have made some changes somewhere by accident or even possibly deleted or changed something accidentaly. I have it set up so it boots to aid or sid (one of them any way) when the dvd drawer is open. But if something had been deleted or changed I would think I would get the same response every bootup not spiratically. Also I kind of noticed it gets worse trying to bootup after being played for a while, I have never had the problem upon first bootup of the day , so to speak. Think a cleaning is in order ? Its been around 8 months since Ive had it apart and cleaned the dust and all out. _________________

I had been thinking about upgrading to sid 4 from sid 3. I dont have any reason to do this, I dont use xbox live so....... is there any other reason than that why sid 4 is better? and would this possibly help? _________________

but if it boots sometimes and not always, its more likely a hardware, not software issue...

Well I dont know to much about Linux O.S. This is first time Ive even used it , all other of my comps are Windows based, but I guess it could be software..... possibly sometimes an executable not running maybe. It seems if it were hardware other than the board or HD I would get an error mssg....... maybe not since the soft mod is booting. _________________
