Sounds like good ol' chip creep. If the chip if slowly coming off the pinheader and your not moving the xbox around, it is usually caused by repeated heating/cooling of the materials inside the xbox. You could always try to fasten the chip, but you may want to look at just upping the speed of your fan to keep the temperature more moderate and see if that helps.

I've got a 2.6 xecuter modded box myself and a friend with a 2.6 solderless.

Lately, he's had issues with the chip slipping out of alignment and has asked if I could remove the chip and softmod the box.

Seeing as how I've got a limited amount of time (and interest) in tackling (t)his project, I'm wondering if it isn't possible to simply retroactively softmod this chipped box.

So, my question is pretty much the same as the parent, is there a relatively simple way of installing a softmod on an modded (solderless) box so that the chip can be removed and full (so to speak) functionality can be maintained?

Further info:

His box has a larger drive installed. His primary use for the box is to back up his discs onto the drive for easy access and as a media player. He doesn't tinker at all... which is why I end up updating his XBMC every couple of months or so.

As an afterthought, Sweepy97... if there is not a solution for us, we both might be best to examine some thick double sided thermal tape to adhese the chip into place. The obvious drawback there is then aligning the D0 pins...
