Alright, just to clerify this I am not new to modding. A few month back I picked up a Halo Limited Edition Xbox, Kernal: 1.00.5838.01. I've tried a bunch of differenlt installers for mech assault and keep ending up with a frozen screen, or a black screen. No idea what to do now, I've been tempting to do this for awhile now, I've modded my friends box for him and it worked perfectly, don't know what the problem is with mine.

5838 kernel means its a v1.6 xbox. This version of xbox does not seem to like the old Linux softmod installers (like MechAssault installer).
I would suggest our very own Softmod Installer Deluxe, which works flawlessly with all versions of xbox. I would recommend SID4.5 (xbox live safe), or SID 3.1 Final. You can find out more about these installers here.
