Do those LCD's for the Xbox require a mod chip?
And would it work on my softmod?
And also, are they easy to install?

1) Yes, they require a modchip
2) No, won't work with a softmod
3) Depends, you can buy complete replacement faceplates for the xbox that have them built in(used iwth Xecuters, typically) or you can solder the 16 wires directly to the modchip from the LCD. then its a matter of mounting the lcd into the case

If you do go with the X3, you can buy the blue LCD screen that just plugs into the chip. If you want to go with a custom color(I just ordered mine) there is a great tutorial here: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-245.html

Oooohh, nice! I can't believe I havent seen that tut before. I might consider doing this instead of purchasing an X3LCD. Does anyone have any idea how much one is likely to cost (in Australian $$$)?

Cheers, roo

*edit. Never mind. I just found one thats only 3hrs away, for only $20! Looks like I might end up getting one sooner than I thought...

You can purchase them from http://www.crystalfontz.com/cgi-bin/pricing.pl?product=2004a-color, but I got mine off ebay from these guys: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZelectronicQ5fwizard
I wanted the red to match the colors I'm going to paint this xbox, but now I have to come up with something snazzy for attaching/dettaching the cable from the LCD.
