Hi, i am having a lot of problems getting a new harddrive in my chipped box. I have read and folowed tuts all over the place, but this is what happens:
Whenever i try to start up with my new hdd i get flashing orange/green power button. i have tried preparing the hdd, and using it nonprepared, changed jumper settings etc, and still the same result.
Bootup discs tried: Slayers EvoX, Raboos autoinstaller (i have also tried to compile my own Xiso disc. didnt work. The medias should not be the problem, since i can play burned games from them.
The hdd i am trying to install is a Seagate Barracuda 120GB model ST3120026A and the chip im using is a Xecuter 2.6 CE Mod Chip & Xapter
I hope theres a wizard with an answer somewhere. Thanks. PeteyEmu

Im not a wizard, but for the flashing green and orange, try plugging the xbox into a TV.

Thanks for the replies. I have connectec all cables (hdd, dvd) as said in the tut, and i have connection to the tv.
The thing works fine when i put the stock hdd back in (and i can boot on the autoinstaller discs as well).
Will try to down the AID thing.
Any other suggestionson what might be wrong? It can't be the hdd can it? I checked if it was compatible, and as far as i could figure out it was.
Oh, i forgot one thing that might be important. I'm not sure if the original eeprom has been deleted. i have a backup of an eeprom i have been using, but i have heard talk of a virtual eeprom (?) and so i am not sure if it is the one i have been using. But anyway, the chip will bypass the eeprom check, won't it?
Thanks,
PeteyEmu

If it was an eeprom issue you would get a MS service screen.
But yeah, it might be the HDD. I have one that when I connect it to the xbox it does the same things, and old 20 gig WD. Since the stock drive works I can't see it being anything but the new drive. Maybe try connecting it to a PC and see if the bios and windows can detect it. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Hmmm...
Make sure jumper is on cable select just to be sure. I would wipe and re-prepare with xboxhdm just to be safe. Ensure that the locking succeeds.
If that doesn't work, maybe try unlocking it and using a program in windows to 0-write the entire drive. If any errors come up the drive may not work, and if not then you can be assured of a proper writing by xboxhdm.
When its connected to the pc you could try some diagnostic tools on it as well like checkdisk or diskdoctor. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

alright. i have already tried xboxhdm (only the 'fast' preparation though) and that seems to work. When i try the other variation (that 'zeroes' the entire drive?) it seems to get stuck or something. I have tried to leave it on for a couple of hours, and it never goes past the first cluster-thing. I have read somewhere that it takes forever to do the entire drive, but how long is forever excactly with a 120 gig drive?
Thanks for your help. I'm beginning to fear that the drive is damaged in some way even though it works fine on my pc.

I think your talking about hdprepare, which is a windows app, as xboxhdm does not have a fast or thorough version. See the attached image, is that what your talking about?
I'm talking about a tool that creates the drive structure the same way, but xboxhdm will actually copy and set up the software needed to run the xbox. the windows prepare program only creates the file structure with no actual files.

Hi again. I have been using xboxhdm. What i meant was that i am only able to zero '1st 4096 sectors of partitions' and not 'entire drive'. Does this mean my hdd is broken?

xboxhdm doesn't give you the option to 0 your drive. Do you mean that you have been osing both applications? Cause if you have, completely ignore xhdprepa and only use xboxhdm.
But yes, it may mean the drive is damaged. did you try the scan disk option? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Oh, sorry. I thought the picture you posted was of xboxhdm and not hdprepare. I have been trying to use xboxhdm as well though, but maybe i need to try it again after i try scandisk and such on the pc. Does the hdd need to be unlocked when i put it in my box?
...Just thought of something; would it be an idea to try to clone the stock xbox drive onto the one i want to use as upgrade drive? And if i do this, will i then be able to just put the new drive in my Box and boot normally without bootdisc?
Thanks, PeteyEmu

No, the drive should be lock when in the xbox, unlocked for access from the computer, but xboxhdm can unlock it for you. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
