i want to know if i should get xbox live but i dont know if my xbox will get mess up cauz i have a softmod and my friend said his xbox got zap his second day when he when on xbox live cause he had a soft mod

If you installed the dual boot softmod (retail boot and softmod boot) and you have your stock hdd in, then you can. If you want to do some online gaming try xlink kai. It's like xbl but free and you can play with a modded box.

The dual boot is:
when you power on with the power button the light around the eject button is red and the hacked dash boots.
When you power on with the eject button, the light around the eject button is green and the m$dash boots.
If you installed this option, you can boot the retail dash (m$dash) and play on live. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

You will need to do it with AID.
In the softmod menu select to unmount the virtual c: patition.
Then in the install dashboards menu- install the m$dash.
Go to the back up menu and back up the eeprom and m$dash.
Once that is finish go to the softmod menu and select to install SID 4.5
What you want is the dual boot ndure version---(open=retail)
Select that and go through the softmod process.
When you're finish test your box be powering up by the power button and then with the eject button. It should boot a different dash each time.

Sounds like as long as you boot to the retail software you'll be fine. One word of caution though, if down the road you change your HD to a larger one you could very well end up getting banned.
MS logs your HD serial number and if you log into XBL with a different HD serial they will check HD size. If larger than stock, they ban you regardless of what mode you power up in.
I'm impressed how far softmodding has come along over the last year (God Bless SID). At one time (not too long ago) I remember if you wanted a dual boot option you pretty much needed a fourth gen mod chip or switch setup. _________________ Xbox 1.4
