Is there any software out there that will allow you to copy a protected dvd movie to xbox HDD? I know the older dvds work fine with dvd2xbox but it wont copy any newer movies?

The newest version of dvd2xbox (0.7.5) should work fine.
If this fails, perhaps you could use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD files to your PC, and then FTP them to your xbox.
Another alternative is to rip the DVD to a Divx (avi codec) format, and FTP this avi to your xbox. These avi files can then be viewed with XBMC. This would also reduce the filesize from several Gb to around 700Mb. The only downside is that the whole process can sometimes take a few hours. _________________

Use a program called DVD2AVI.. Thats what i used to use all the time.. Works great and support encoding XVID and DIVX or whatever..
Im sure if you search google or ask in our pc-hq.com website you would find more answers.

what would be really cool would be a dvd ripping program that runs from the xbox, and bypass the computer ripping and ftp stages. ive looked for one but no luck

yeah install the latest version of dvd2xbox and use that, if no luck then maybe you could install the unleashx dashboard as some of those skins that are available have copy dvd to the xbox hard drive in the system settings _________________ I might be considered a newbie on xbox hq but trust me, i've got experience.
now we just need to make every xbox have a clear case, and then we shall change the world one xbox at a time

It’s hard to believe in the iTunes era of blink-and-you-miss-them CD rips, but in the mid-90s, ripping a CD was a time-consuming process, fraught with peril. Ripping a single disc to 128kbps MP3 could take 8 hours on a 200MHz Pentium! Fast forward a decade, with faster hardware and better software and CD ripping is so mainstream your mom does it.
