I've been scaning this forum and a few others and i've read several guides to install a softmod.
1st question is do i need a computer to do the install because some say to ftp in and make a backup of the xbox. However in the SID 4.5 manual it says nothing about ftping to save the backups off the xbox.
2nd question should the aid disc be readable in windows? I ask this just so i don't go forward with the install with a bad aid disc.
3rd question if my setup is not DHCP can i still use a aid disc with the dhcp addon added to it with out a problem?[/quote]

you cannot ftp if your xbox is unmodded , however to softmod you need something called action replay kit it runs for $30 and it has all tools needed , the disc the 8 mb mem card and the usb to mem card adapter,then you need 1 of the 3 exploitable games, it can be 007 auf sc or ma .....
what you mean if aid is readable to pc? you have to download aid 3 from the net then get the softomod files from aid 3 and burn aid 3 for the nice apps!.... and for the last question i dont know ... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

AID is only readable on an xbox, if you put it in a PC it wont be able to read the disk.
And the DHCP addon is just a patch thats added to the disk, I doubt you will need it, but you can add it to the disk and still have it incase you ever need it down the road. _________________

Iment when i do the backup of the orginal xbox through the softmod ido i need to ftp into the xbox to backup what it saves under g:\backup\ ??

I have not installed a dash yet... I was planing on useing the sid 4.5 and i was wondering if i needed to ftp intop the xbox to backup the orginal setup. Or am i just assuming this step is needed since i've read it in old tutourials.

Once its modded do i need to do a back up to install the aid if installing on a retail hard drive?

arrg man... ok sid 4.5 is fool proof meaning noobs wont make a mistake to break the mod or damge the xbox. just download aid 3 buy ar kit ... the software alone wont help ... get the game 1 of 3 non platinum and aid 3 is just a disc of a bundled of apps..
you can upgrade your hd and burn your xbox games they load faster ... the same with dvds .... you can play dvds w/out remote and you can also burn them inside...
but retail hd wont fit all this crap so first mod it then talk later about upgrading hd.... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Its safer to back up your xbox, the c drive the edrive and the eeprom is located in E:\UDATA\21585554\000000000000\backup\eeprom.bin _________________
