Due to the uncountable numbers of scams that have gone on in these forums, I'm bringing a few things to everyone's attention. We are growing by the day, and quite fast, might I add. And with those numbers (and a classified forum) come many scammers. We've seen it numerous times, DJB got screwed on the 360, and I'm sure at least 3 or 10 of us has gotten screwed on E-bay.
Although any purchase made through this forum is not garaunteed or protected in any way by the HQ, I can suggest a few things for people to do to keep their buying experiences safe and secure.
1. If you don't have a PayPal account, get one. They're free, and can link to any credit card or bank account that you already have, so you don't have to worry about actually giving someone your credit card number in the forum. Not to mention, they offer purchase protection, and can track down a fraudulent buyer for you.
2. Do not send Money Order or Western Union or anything of the sort. If you don't have a credit card or a paypal, please, ask a local friend, or go through one of the admins. Da-Goat is our current money order admin, contact him and he'd be more than happy to help you out.
3. If you don't feel comfortable with these options (at the risk of sounding like an ass) go somewhere else. E-bay is a great place to find goods, and there are plenty of places to get cases, chips, and parts online. If you need any help finding these places, feel free to ask in this thread.
And that's about it, three simple ways to keep yourself safe from fraud here in the forums. Please, please take heed to this advice to keep yourself secure. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Yes, I'll stress how important it is to be not so much over-cautious, but careful.
For example, if it's someone selling things on this site, check how long they've been around for, check their posts. This could be an indication on how active they are, and how known they are to the community.
Here's another idea, if possible, try and arrange with the buyer to send half the money before delivery, and half when the item is recieved. This will give you added security and ensures if the seller wants the rest of the money they have to send the item.
So, bottom line, yes buying online and from Xbox-Hq can be quite rewarding, but just be careful.

He said Western Union, which is the most popular form of wire transfer, thanks for your input though. _________________

Well, hopefully these tips will keep us all safe when purchasing on HQ. Maybe somewhere down the road if we get big enough and traffic starts goin a lot more, we might be able to set up an e-bay like page where people can post and run their auctions, what have you. But that might be far off. Hobbs is way too busy, and I"m only just starting my web classes (and they won't start offerin PHP training until this upcoming fall). Once I get running in that, I'm gonna try and team up with Hobbs on the design portion of the site, maybe help add to it. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Great idea, I like buying, selling, trading my stuff. That pisses me off that people rip other people off. I've had horrible luck on ebay lately, i'm out ~300 altogether. I know how it feels to be ripped. I trust people too much... I like da-goats escrow idea, and would be willing to help him out. Honestly, you shouldn't buy from anyone new to the forums, and only buy from the established members. Is that "blacklisted sellers" topic stickied/pinned? if not, it should be. Hope it works out for everyone involved. -impwiz- _________________

thanks for thinking of the guys here on HQ and spending 5 minutes of your time to write this up..
I just wish i had more time in my day.. I had that on my things to do but now thanks to you i can remove it.. heheh lol
n/p... I've just been getting screwed over and over on EBay. Most of the time, i'm the most cautious person. But even the most cautious person gets f00ked. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
