okay so i softmodded my buddies xbox and ive re read the tutorial again to double check something, now his box works but my question is this
what does #7 mean?? what i do is. copy files over to hdd, then load the "save game", run the two backups, then i install softmod, and then turn off and run the AID disc, install softmod again, install dashboard, and some apps or what not, now thats it i stop there. my question is what does #7 mean? and what is this patch MS 5960 thing? can anyone maybe explain those two things to me
thx in advance
) Use my Softmod Installer Deluxe v2.0, tested on all different versions.
2) Make a backup of your C Drive by doing a MS Backup
3) Using the in-built file manager, delete ALL the files from C Drive. The reason we do this is because the softmod doesn't like old dashboards.
4) Install your softmod
5) Turn off your Xbox, and insert Auto-Installer Deluxe v1.01
6) Install the MS Dashboard from there, this is guarenteed to work with my softmod installer.
7) Go back and re-install your softmod, as installing the MS Dash previously wipes it
Now, use the Patch MS 5960 option

ok, the MS 5960 patch is if you want to be able to run you MS dashboard when modded, and it means that it only supports the MS Dash 5960.
the way to use SID, is to go in this order.
backup C
install softmod
install dashboard
patch 5960...........if you know you have this dash!
backing up C is needed.
softmod will be loader xbe file and fonts.
dashboard......of course why boot to an error, make sure you do this.
that's about it.
what you must do if you don't have dash 5960, is to use AID, install it, and install softmod from there, or do it all over.

well, AID already patches it for you i think. but try running b4 you patch with SID, to be sure it's patched, if not they patch with it.

All AID is used for is installing bootable dashboards via your cd drive. You don't even have to use AID... just ftp to the xbox once it is soft modded (must have a router or double NIC, read ftp tutorial) and upload whatever dash you want into the xbox. Be careful though! If you load a replacement dashboard into the c partition, MAKE SURE your evox.ini loader is scripted to point at the proper filename for your .xbe dashboard file to load up. Otherwise you'll delete the dashboard and it won't be able to load it again without remodding the box, perhaps NEEDING a modchip to do so. If you still need help, contact me at knightzr0@aim.com
