ive had no problems until recently with my box - v1.6, ude2 softmodded since last december and its been sweet, really really sweet
i've been "try before you buy" with games from the net, and i really havnt had problems, only a couple of games wouldnt work through the entire time, but found a patch for them and now they do, even some games people were looking for patches for worked for me, i just assumed they were already patched in the release
but recently, a couple of games havent worked (actually i think all new ones i try dont). and i waited and looked around for a patch and nothing, and now more games wouldnt work
since there is no defragmenter (that i could find) i reformated f (just in case) still nothing, now no game has "stopped" working for me
so i checked my udata folder - 256 items, being that number it made me think, so i went into my ms dash and deleted a shit load of saves i dont need anymore.
still cant get the shit working, so i went and bought a damn game (one that off the hdd wasnt working nfs hot pursuit 2)
still wont work, so i deleted my softmod off of my larger hard drive, put the msdash back on (surprised that worked) thinking okay now its got to work, the damn game still did nothing and msdash said my xbox needed service
got my mod back on and deleted an assload of saves from the xbox no dice still, what the hell
figured maybe download a save for it off the net, and try to put it on via ftp - write failed - what
ftpd into my AR card, put it on, the damn ms dash wont copy it over said copy failed
cant create a folder in udat through flash fxp or move a folder into udata (through flash and xbmc)
so im gonna backup and delete every save off of the drive and see what that does - before i do that though, any thoughts

You mention you used a ude2 softmod which ive never heard of.. lol
Have you tried softmodding your xbox using SID3?? Softmod Auto Installer 3?? (http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com)
If you havent i would suggest to give that a try.. Ive done a few softmods now and no probs for me and friends backups running on hdd's etc etc..
So maybe its time to upgrade your softmod..
seriously ude2?? Which website supports that..
anyway, hope that gets you going again.. there are plenty of softmod tutorials with pics in our Xbox Tutorials section which will walk you through the process.
