My HDD died (Error 7, eternal clicking) and I can't afford to buy a modchip at this time. I have none of the data from it and I don't think it's recoverable, so I'm finished with Live as far as I know. If I install a working HDD, will it boot up with an AID 2.0 CD? I just want to be able to play the games I have, and if I could play backup discs, emus, etc. that would be a plus.
I've been reading about modchips and soft-mods for a couple weeks, but most information only deals with choosing to do it, and not modding out of necessity. I haven't seen anything dealing with a totally dead HDD to begin with. I'm willing to try anything, but with a wife and 2 kids on a tight budget, I could only spend about $20. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Technically, you can buy a pc hard drive (check our database to be sure it's lockable) and then install all you need via a chip. Now as for a softmod, starting without the original disk.... that I'm not sure of but hell some chips are only like $10, what's not to afford. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Thanks. I'll look through the site and see what I can find.
