Ok, here's the deal. I have Xbox Live. Now, my friends tell me that the softmod is reversable. Can I reverse it so that I can play XBL when I want to?

Yes, you can. BUT, you have to make sure you still have the game you used to softmod (007:AUF, Mechassault, or Splinter Cell). My suggestion is use the newest SID to complete your softmod (so when you press the eject button you have the "safe mode" screen). MAKE SURE you've backed up the Stock (MS) dashboards by using the options available. Then, you softmod when you need (using the game and/or FTP) and then you want to get on live, you have two options.
1. Cold booting. It hasn't been fully tested yet (as far as I know, and I don't have live, so I haven't had the balls to do so.) Just to be safe, make sure your MS DASH backup is the NEWEST ONE UP TO DATE. (YOu can probably grab it from the Downloads section. So that MS doesn't try to update your dash because I have no idea what kind of effects that would have on a softmod. Once you have everything ready, Coldboot (put the disc in ((RETAIL ONLY)) turn off the system, then turn it back on with the disc in the tray... yeah... and go about your buisiness on live.
2. Use the SID's restore MS Backup option to restore your MS dash when needed to access live. Then when you're done on live, restore your MOD backup as per the SaveGame exploit (one of the three afforementioned games).
Hopefully these options will help you in your Live adventures. Like I said, I, personally haven't tried the Coldbooting option. But in theory, it should work. Just make sure to patch the MS Dash 5960. It's all explained in the SID instructions. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Or you can modify the exploit to boot a dashboard instead of the softmod
menu, this way your given accsess to your hdd the same way only
you have to have the exploit game in the machine the whole time you
want to use the mod, (you cant copy games or watch dvd`s)
But when you turn off your xbox and remove the exploit game your left with an un modded xbox.
I have been using this type of mod for about 6 months now, In that time
two of my friends have been banned from xbox live with their chipped
xbox`s.
using my method you can`t accidently boot a game disk in the wrong mode,
It`s impossable.
you can however still get banned if you tried to get onto xbox live using
a game stored on your hdd.
This way is much simpler than trying to restore one backup and then restore another,
how long before you hit the wrong button by accident and overwrite your
ms backup with a softmoded ms dash?
cold booting is fine, as long as you disable auto launch games on your hacked dashboard you should be ok,
cold booting is when you turn on the xbox with the game you wish to use
already in the tray, thus never booting the hacked ms dash nor using the bfm bios.

are u sure coldbooting works? i wouldn't mind trying this myself, it sure sounds alot easier than doing what im doing now which is restoring the ms backup and restoring mod backup wen i want the mod back on.
how many people have tried coldbooting and not got banned? so coldbooting all you have to do is start the xbox with the live game you wish to play in the drive therefore booting the game b4 the dashboard boots. is this correct?

Thats all.
I`ve never used the cold boot myself but I do know people who do
use this method.
I don`t recomend it, but the theory is right. when your xbox boots a game from cold then none of the ms dash is loaded, so none of the softmod is loaded.
I preffer my method over any though. (see my ubove post)
I`ve been using a softmodded xbox on xbox live for ages using my
160 gb hdd with a modded softmod.
