I am reading ' No Modchip Hdd Replacement Tutorial (v0.1) '. In step 4 is says to have a HHD that is larger than 8gig - because I choose to go with a laptop the past two computers the largest drive I have is 8gig. (At the time I got that 8gig the biggest you could buy was about 40gig.) The drive I plan to put in the xbox is a Seagate 160gig (20 times the size and after rebate, the same price as the 8!)
There is nothing on the xbox HHD - I have played on game one it to make sure it worked and am now ready to do the soft mod and put in the new drive. Does it really back up space that isn't there? Will I be OK with my old 8gig as the back up drive?

Personally i would work off a tutorial which pirrup/XBOXHQ wrote.. He is one of our admins here and can ofcourse help you much more then just by reading someone elses tutroials.

Great!. Thank you. That is a much newer tutorial than the other one I got fom your site. I have actually decided to get a chip. I have a broken box. One of the tutorials on this site discusses error codes.

The box has Solid Green with no audio/video/eject. If this tutorial is right then a mod chip may fix it. Then I could use the newly modded box to more easily soft mod the other. Now I just need to decide on a chip. Leaning toward the SP Ice, but not done checking out the X3.
